Hey there!

Whether you're looking for SAT/ACT tutoring, college essay help, or general assistance with your English coursework and writing assignments, I'm happy to help! I'm a super word nerd: I blog about books and review them for Booklist Publications, and I'm the assistant to a literary agent where I read and edit manuscripts all day long.

While at Wheaton College where I received my BA in English Writing, I was a teaching assistant in the English department where I worked regularly with students on writing assignments and assisted the professor with grading. I also worked at the college's Writing Center, where I met with both undergraduate and graduate students by appointment for 30-minute consultations to improve their academic writing.

I have experience with many different kinds of writing be it academic, creative, or business and would be happy to share some of my experience with you to help with whatever kind of assignments you're working on. My background also includes six years studying Latin, which turned me into a lover of language and vocabulary. As with many writers and language nerds, I'm also a big fan of reading, enough to know that reading is a skill - one you can learn and improve with practice.

I believe what makes me a good tutor is that I'm flexible (every student is different), empathetic (sometimes school is tough), and passionate (writing is my life!).

If you have any questions, don't hesitate to reach out!

Vocabulary,

Vocabulary

I'm a big word nerd. I took 6 years of Latin (over 60% of the English language is derived from Greek and Latin!) which fed an interest in etymologies and gave me lots of help with understanding words and their derivations. I think language is fun and important, and would enjoy working with your student to improve and broaden his or her vocabulary.

ACT English

I earned my BA in English from Wheaton College, where I worked as an English TA and as a writing center consultant. I currently read, analyze, and write for work as a book reviewer and blogger for one of the largest trade review publications and as the assistant to the president at a literary agency representing authors and their works to publishers. I've taken courses in the manuscript editing certificate program at the University of Chicago, which emphasizes knowing the ins and outs of grammar usage.

Eleanor is tutoring my son for the reading portion of the SAT. She gave him good tips and was very knowledgeable. Eleanor is very nice and patient. My son came away from the session with new insight into tackling the questions and we feel that the advice Eleanor is providing will help him on the upcoming exam.
