About Lynne

Education has been my profession for more than 40 years. Most recently, I have “retired” from my full time position as a teacher educator in the Departments of Early Childhood Education and Special Education at Roosevelt University. I love to teach and will not be happy unless I can.

There are two main reasons that I need to continue teaching; because it makes me happy to watch a child’s face when he/she finally “gets it”, and because I can do it really well!

During my career, I have been lucky enough to teach parents, infants, toddlers, children from Pre-School through High School, children with hearing impairments and children with “Learning Disabilities.” For the last 18 years, I have been teaching graduate and undergraduate students how to become teachers for children in the general population and how to modify how they teach for children who “learn differently.” I believe that ALL children learn differently, but some just need a bit more special attention than others. I like the challenge of (patiently) finding the best way to help each child learn.

Unless I can find some children who need help from a “seasoned” teacher, I won’t know what to do with myself! Since I need to keep busy, I would like to be able to do what I love: Teaching.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Elementary (K-6th)

My BS from the University of Illinois included Elementary Education as a minor. I have taught in grades Preschool through 12 in both regular and special education, including Dyslexia and ADD/ADHD. My experience includes teaching and tutoring children with organization issues, reading, math, and study skills. The students I tutored were from K, 2, 10, and all middle school ages.

Hard Of Hearing

I have a BS from the University of Illinois in Deaf Education.

Special Needs

Each of my degrees, BS, M.Ed, and Ed.D includes teaching children with special needs. I have BS from the U of Illinois in Education of the Deaf, an MS.ED in Learning Disabilities from the University of Virginia and an Ed.D in Early Childhood Special Education from the University of Virginia. I am a semi-retired professor at Roosevelt University.

Fantastic for LD homework needs! — Lynne took her time to explain my homework, which is exactly what I needed. She helped me come up with plans to tackle the assignments to be successful. Lynne spoke in terms that were very understandable to me, which is a must. If I didn't understand she would re-explain until it clicked for me. I liked how hard she worked for me to understand my own work. ...
