Emma K. founded her planning, environmental, and engineering consulting firm in 1988. She is an entrepreneur that motivates, coaches, and trains professionals in career and business development. She designs and facilitates workshops, seminars, and immersions in a variety of topics including communication skills, technical and grant writing, foreign languages - Spanish, French, Polish, Russian, and English as a second language.
She holds a master's degree in history and teaches interviewing methods for cross-cultural, cross-generational community projects. She is active in professional organizations such as the Society of American Military Engineers (SAME)holding executive positions serving on the Boards of two Posts. Currently, she teaches business development classes for SAME including Building Business through the SBA 8(a) Mentor Protégé Program. She is also on the Board of the Women's Transportation Seminar (WTS) and is Chair of the Professional Development Committee that holds seminars for engineers, planners, and environmental professionals.
Ms. K. was an interpreter for Spanish and Polish clients of Legal Assistance Foundation, she taught foreign languages and English as a second language using the immersion method at Inlingua School of languages, she taught English as a second language to students preparing for the TOEFL and other exams. She was an editor for Encyclopaedia Britannica in the World Data and Cartography Departments.
Ms. K. regularly volunteers at Highland Park's Elm Place School, teaching oral history interviewing methods to the students as part of cross-cultural history and literature projects. Ms. K. is active with the Highland Park Sister Cities Foundation chairing the Modena Italy Exchange Committee. She is a founding member of Highland Park's East on Central an organization that offers a multi-media artistic forum for visual artists and writers through East on Central a Journal of Fine Art and Literature, published from 2001 to the present. She is a poet, memoir and fiction writer, photographer, mosaicist, and ceramicist.
Emma K. was born in Casablanca, Morocco of Eastern European parents. She and her parents emigrated to the United States when she was 11 years old. In addition to growing up speaking English, Polish, Russian, French, and Ukrainian, she has studied foreign languages on the university level and is therefore fluent in six languages and certified for teaching advanced Spanish, she taught Spanish in a middle school immersion program. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. Polish is my "mother" in that my first language from birth has been Polish. My mother was Polish, born in Warsaw. I have spoken Polish, reading, and writing it since childhood until the present. I taught Polish at all levels at Inlingua Language School. I am fluent in Polish and have excellent grammatical and literary knowledge.
Organizational and study skills are core components of my instruction as well as my immersion workshops programs. I have been teaching and developing curricula for in person and group instruction for over 30 years and have a Master of Arts degree.
