About June

Allow me to help you, or your child, by bringing key organizational skills to existing patterns of study, or the lack thereof; and give additional guidance to reading and writing assignments, thereby improving achievements in the various language arts, social sciences, and other fields of study. In numerous situations, when tutoring is recommended, a neutral party is the solution to mounting friction during tense study sessions between parent and child. Bringing some humor and laughter to learning is something I often find quite productive.

I have a degree in journalism, professional and volunteer experience as an editor, five years of service as a volunteer tutor in a high school writing lab, and I have been a certified substitute teacher for students in kindergarten through twelfth grade since 1999.

My strengths are in the humanities, language arts, and social studies. Certainly, at the elementary school level I have general knowledge in science and arithmetic. At higher grade levels, I would recommend specialized tutoring in those specialized fields.

I am available for writing and editing in the social, professional, and business communities. Thank you.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have now been a certified Illinois substitute teacher for the past twelve years. I work with children in kindergarten through the twelfth grade. I can provide elementary school children general guidance in improving their organizational and study skills, with a strong emphasis on the language arts and social studies. I am certainly able to give general help with science and arithmetic. However, if that is where there is a major weakness, I would suggest a tutor with a more specialized background in those areas.

Social Studies

My background is comprised of 1) being a certified Illinois substitute teacher for the past twelve years, from kindergarten through high school, therefore including teaching social studies on a somewhat regular basis; 2) having volunteered, for five years, as a tutor in a high school writing lab; 3) graduating with a degree in journalism; 4) being addicted to news and politics; and 5) still loving to acquire knowledge. Consequently, I think I could help most students improve their achievements in the various fields of social studies.
