NCU North Central University (Intercultural)
Hi! Thanks for reading my bio! My name is Tyler and I'm a 28 year old English teacher who grew up in Michigan and now lives in the south suburbs of Chicago with my wife, Phuong. I've always had a passion for travel, learning, meeting new people, and seeing others learn and gain confidence with things they may not have thought possible previously. I also love taking subjects that others might find dull and uninteresting and teaching them in a way that brings out just how fun and intriguing they can be. My professional experience has all been with teaching English, but as a personal interest of mine, I love learning about and teaching subjects like history, geography, cultural anthropology, religion, and theology. I've volunteered in a number of places that have given me the chance to teach all of those subjects both in America and overseas. My English teaching experience has been entirely cross-cultural, both with immigrant communities in America and in three countries in Asia. Most recently, I just returned from two years of teaching English at a learning center for children in Indonesia. Elsewhere, I've taught immigrants from Latin America, East Africa, and Southeast Asia in the US, and I've taught college students in India, and children in Singapore. If you're in need of a tutor for English or any of the other subjects I mentioned, whether English is your first language or not, please don't hesitate to reach out to me!
I have a TEFL certificate from North Central University in Minneapolis, as well as a Bachelor's degree in Intercultural Studies. In total, I have over three years of English teaching experience in both volunteer and professional settings around the world.
I'm confident that I can help you improve your English, starting today. Send me a message about setting up a tutoring appointment and I'll respond right away! Hi! Thanks for reading my bio! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I minored in Biblical Studies in college. I've spent my entire life in Church and have many years of Biblical teaching in volunteer settings, such as Bible studies and mission trips. I also read the Bible every single morning and have read through the entire Bible more times than I can remember.
My main area of teaching during my two years overseas was teaching English phonics to four and five year olds. The curriculum we used was based mostly on the foundation of teaching the kids to first have a firm understanding of phonics before learning to read. This went well with my TEFL certificate and the classes I took in order to achieve that. In all, I have two years of professional experience teaching Phonics based reading courses to children.
