About Patricia

I have a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Elementary k-8 and Special Education k-12. With over 7 years of classroom experience, and the desire to inform all students about the unlimited possibilities to receiving an education, I am confident in my ability to be a valuable asset to you.

My teaching, career and educational goals are geared towards the empowerment of all students. I have a strong passion to educate young minds and help them blossom into well-rounded, responsible, and successful individuals bound for college. Throughout the course of my career, I have had wonderful opportunities to assist and teach diverse groups of students, including those with learning disabilities, and those who performed at grade level. As a result, I have been proficient at implementing, modifying lesson plans that accommodated multiple intelligences, bring a hands-on approach to learning, keep students interested and focused. If you are looking to succeed, then you have found the right person to help you on your educational journey.

What makes me an outstanding tutor is the ability to make learning fun as students are actively engaged in the learning process. I am currently working on my Master's of Secondary Education in English Language Arts. I am a tutor that is driven to help you succeed academically. So if you are looking for a tutor that can simplify a subject as to where you will easily comprehend the material then you have found the right person.

What makes me an outstanding phonics tutor is having the understanding that teaching phonics is a step by step learning process that requires implementing the six different approaches to learning phonics:

Synthetic phonics-I teach students how to convert letters or letter combinations into sounds, and then how to blend the sounds together to form recognizable words.

Analytic phonics-this is where students learn to analyze letter-sounds relationships in previously learned words. They do not pronounce sounds in isolation.

Analogy-based phonics-I will show students how to use parts of word families they know to identify words they don't know that have similar parts.

Phonics through spelling-This is where the fun begins with students learning how to segment words into phonemes and to make words by writing letters for phonemes.

Embedded phonics-students are taught letter-sound relationships during the reading of connected text.

Onset-rime phonics-students learn to identify the sound of the letter or letters before the first vowel (the onset) in a one-syllable word and the sound of the remaining part of the word (the rime).

With the proper resources available and implementing the strategies for learning phonics, students will become proficient in this skill set.

I look forward with great anticipation to discussing with you the many ways in which I can make a significant contribution to your educational growth. You do what to grow don't you? Then reach out to me so we can begin your journey, full of unlimited possibilities and academic opportunities.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
