Hello. My name is Jennifer R. I have a master’s degree in Computer Information Systems. I studied C++, C#, Visual Basic, and college algebra. I can help students with several pre-algebra concepts such as algebraic equations, graphing, and geometry.

I have studied Microsoft application programming for about three years. My academic assignments included writing both console and GUI (graphical user interface) C# programs. In graduate school, I studied intermediate level Visual Basic while learning to use the Visual Studio IDE. In addition to coding, I learned how to use ADO.NET to connect to a SQL Server database. The most recent computer language that I have learned is C#. I successfully completed an intermediate C# continuing education course in October 2019.

The topics I learned included loops, variable scope, writing and reading text files, passing parameters by value and reference, exception handling, arrays, methods, classes, inheritance, and polymorphism. I am familiar with several commonly used controls including labels, text boxes, list boxes, buttons, MenuStrips, and Data grid views. I can also bind data from databases to some controls.

I have been tutoring online since January. As a programming tutor, I will be patient while helping someone to understand the topics. I want to help him or her to understand what a line of code or code block is doing. I have learned that the best way to learn programming to is to practice programming. Therefore, I would encourage students and other learners to practice as much they can. I would do my best to simplify confusing material. I want students to feel confident about programming.

Feel free to contact me to learn more or to schedule a lesson.

Computer

C#

In 2019, I completed two courses to learn basic and intermediate C# programming. I learned how to apply the language to concepts like variables, if statements, loops, methods, arrays, classes, writing/reading text (.txt) files, and passing parameters. In my intermediate course, I learned how to use those skills with a graphical user interface (GUI) as well as inheritance and polymorphism. I have continued to practice creating both command-line and GUI programs in C#. I have some experience tutoring this subject online, and my final exam scores for my C# courses were both As. When I see unexpected results in a C# program, I identify the part of the code that might be causing the problem and thoroughly examine it to correct the problem.
C++,

C++

C++ was the first programming language that I learned in college. My skills in C++ include methods, loops, if/else statements, classes, derived classes, pointers, arrays, vectors, linked lists, stacks, queues, selection sort, quicksort, linear search, and binary search. I used the software Visual Studio to write all my code.
Visual Basic

Visual Basic

I began my graduate studies studying the Visual Basic language. I have intermediate skills in this language including classes, inheritance, and other concepts. I know how to create graphical user interface (GUI) programs using this language, but I have not used this language for console applications. I have continued to practice my skills in my spare time.

Prealgebra

Prealgebra

I studied college Prealgebra. I can help with concepts such as word problems, algebraic equations, converting fractions to decimals, converting decimals to percents, and graphing. The other topics that I am familiar with are finding the areas of rectangles, squares, triangles, and circles, in addition to finding the perimeters of shapes with straight sides and the circumference of a circle.
