I am currently a math teacher at a High School in Algonquin. I have been teaching for 8 years and fall more in love with it each year! I currently teach Algebra 1 and Honors Geometry but have previously taught Geometry, Algebra 2, and Pre-calculus / Trig. Outside of teaching at Jacobs, I have also worked as a private tutor for students around the area for the past 10 years. I received my Undergraduate Degree in Secondary Mathematics Education from Northern Illinois University and my Masters Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Concordia University Chicago.

I have been given the opportunity to work one-on-one with students with special needs as well as honors students who need that extra challenge. I have tutored students from age 10 all the way up to college level Algebra students. I consider myself to be a very student-centered educator and will stop at nothing until the student comprehends the material at hand. I believe in a hands on education and this will show through my tutoring and teaching. I teach by example. While working with your student, I will first explain the material (or problem), walk them through an example or two, have them talk me through a problem with the proper guidance, and then have them try problems on their own. I am a very experienced tutor and absolutely love helping students gain the confidence for math they desire through one on one help.

I understand not every student learns the same way and have chosen to embrace this fact. I have been trained by some of the best instructors on how to relate material to students to make them understand more clearly. I will try multiple ways to help your student comprehend and feel comfortable with the material. I am a very energetic and positive person who truly enjoys teaching. I am looking forward to getting to know your student and to help them become life long learners in and out of the classroom.

Algebra 1,

Algebra 1

While student-teaching, I had 3 sections of Advanced Algebra for 8th graders. I have a large amount of supplemental material needed to help a student succeed.
Algebra 2,

Algebra 2

As part of my student teaching experience, I successfully provided differentiated instruction to 3 sections of advanced Algebra. Now equipped with many supplemental material for Algebra students, I am confident in helping students better understand every topic.
Geometry,

Geometry

I have completed long term subbing assignments in both Regular and Honors Geometry courses in various high schools. I have had experience delivering instruction and creating/utilizing both formative and summative assessments. I have also had the opportunity to modify lesson plans for Geometry to meet the needs of students at different ability levels.
Piano,

Piano

I took private lessons from 9 years old until 18 years old. I was trained with Classical music but was exposed to many different genres of music as well. I worked as a private piano instructor at Music Education Centers in South Elgin, IL for 8 years and still substitute for teachers as needed. I have worked with students as young as 4 years old as well as adults. I understand piano does not always come naturally to many people so I try to incorporate different techniques to help make the learning process both enjoyable and successful.
Prealgebra,

Prealgebra

It was my responsibility to co-teach two sections of Prealgebra during my student teaching. Dealing with students who were below, at, and above grade level, I was very successful at reaching every student in the class. Understanding that Algebra is the basis for all math, I am dedicated in helping students understand these basics so they will have a strong foundation in order to move on.

Exceptional Tutor

Meghan has been such a help to my daughter who struggles in math. Meghan goes the extra mile and really explains the problems and formulas thoroughly. Meghan writes down all the work that my daughter and her complete so that my child is able to review those notes when she is at home. I cannot recommend Meghan enough, she has been a lifesaver in my home, we no longer have tears when math homework is assigned.

Great with Students

My daughter really likes Meghan. She makes her feel comfortable and genuinely wants to see her succeed in math. Her self-esteem in math is starting to increase with Meghan's help. She is starting to lose her defeatist attitude about math.

Great tutor!

We have been very blessed to have Meghan as a tutor. My daughter has gained a lot of confidence with Meghan's help. Meghan always arrives prepared and ready to answer any questions Sam has. Sam's grade has gone up 15% since getting help from Meghan. If you're looking for a very professional and fun tutor, I highly recommend Meghan.

Excellent tutor!

My daughter absolutely loves working with Meghan. We couldn't have found a better tutor. My daughter has so much more confidence with her Algebra 1 after her sessions with Meghan. She explains each topic so that it is clearly understood. Then she works through problems and watches my daughter do problems on her own to make sure she is doing each step correctly. Her enthusiasm and teaching methods are exactly what I was looking for in a tutor. Meghan is prompt and makes herself available if my daughter has any questions or problems. I highly recommend her to anyone seeking a math tutor.
