I am certified teacher and tutor students in both reading (decoding, fluency and reading comprehension) and in writing. I also use a comprehensive, sequential phonics-based program that has proven success. This reading program provides struggling readers with the skills they need to become successful readers. Most students see significant gains after only 20 hours of instruction. I use Orton-Gillingham strategies when tutoring. My lessons consist of direct instruction in phonics and reading comprehension strategies. I have a Bachelor's of Arts degree from Michigan State University. I also have met the tutoring requirements for the Secretary of State Literacy Office and ProLiteracy Worldwide. I have worked with elementary-aged students through adults, including students with dyslexia and ADHD. Through tutoring, I desire to provide an opportunity for all students, no matter their abilities, to learn to read and to know the joy and opportunity reading can bring to their lives.
