Hi, I'm Alyssa. I graduated with my Master of Sciences degree in Communication Disorders and Sciences in 2000. Two years earlier, I graduated summa cum laude with my Bachelor of Sciences degree in Communication Disorders and Sciences. I hold current certification to work as a speech-language pathologist in Illinois public schools.

For 15 years, I have homeschooled my three children. My oldest is now in college and my younger two are in high school. I have thoroughly enjoyed teaching all subjects to them in a one-on-one format, which often proves to be a fantastic way to learn. Two of my children have ADHD, and my son had visual processing difficulties; I enjoyed researching the best methods to help them learn. I incorporated my research into our homeschool, which helped them to succeed. I have also taught various classes to groups of homeschooled students over the years.

With my background and training in speech and language disorders, I have a heart for children with special needs and I look forward to incorporating my expertise into tutoring sessions. I have also completed online continuing education courses in ADHD and dyslexia, and I plan to utilize the information I've learned into my tutoring as well. In addition, I have always been an excellent writer and proofreader. I have taught composition classes to groups of homeschooled high school and junior high students. Finally, because of my background in speech-language pathology, I am able to offer English pronunciation and accent modification classes.

I enjoy tutoring in all of the areas in which I am qualified. I especially enjoy teaching elementary reading, writing, and language arts, and also teaching social language skills. My passion is to help children with special needs to be successful and to feel confident in a learning environment.

Please feel free to contact me any time with questions or to schedule a session. If you are in need of tutoring, I would love to help!

Amazing and Patient Tutor

Ms. Alyssa taught English to my 5th grader and we had an amazing experience working with her. Her teaching expertise and professionalism helped my daughter improve her reading, writing and overall language proficiency. She is a very patient teacher who would give students the attention they need and appreciate them for completing tasks that helps elementary students gain confidence. I highly recommend Ms. Alyssa to any family that wants their children to learn English in the most fun and engaging ways. We'll miss her and know that she'll be the first choice if we ever go into a lockdown again!
