I have worked with students in special education who have a learning disability in math. I use direct instruction programs such as: Connecting Math Concepts,a tier 3 math intervention. In order to know where to begin in Connecting Math Concepts, I would administer a pre-assessment to see what level to start. I have experience with Touchmath, which is a multisensory math program that makes critical math concepts easier for students to understand.

Many of my students who have a learning disability in reading, also have it in spelling and/or writing. I have used the Wilson Reading System and the Orton Gillingham method to help with writing complete sentences and spelling words. I have experience using the University of Kansas Writing strategy, as it is an evidenced based curriculum. It teaches the writing standards from grades 2-12, and increases their writing performance. It provides different writing strategies: FUNDAMENTALS IN THE SENTENCE WRITING STRATEGY (GRADES 2+), PROFICIENCY IN THE SENTENCE WRITING STRATEGY (GRADES 3+), PARAGRAPH WRITING STRATEGY (GRADES 4+), and EDIT STRATEGY (GRADES 4+). I also help with basic writing skills for young authors and introducing them how to organize what they want to say and structure it. The activities address the five stages of writing, (pre-emergent, emergent, early, developing, and established). It also helps ESL/ELL students learn to write in the English Language!

Special Needs

Being a flexible educator, I have enjoyed the opportunity to teach a diverse group of students including those with ADD/ADHD, Emotional/Behavioral Disturbance, Other health impairments, learning disabilities, and speech impairments. Currently, I am working as a special education resource teacher in Highland Park, Illinois. I am the ELL special education resource teacher. I work with students with various backgrounds and learning abilities. Many of my students have a learning disability, speech/language disorder, Autism, ED/BD, OHI, ADHD/ADD. dyslexia, etc. These experiences have helped me transform into a humble and compassionate individual, who takes each student’s learning problems seriously, and create effective lesson plans and activities to accommodate them. My greatest capability is infusing technology into my activities. I also developed lesson plans that meet the needs of all styles of learners. I have incorporated various forms of discussion, technology, and group work to teach new concepts. I make sure that each student receives encouragement and praise for their work so that he/she stay motivated to do the work and does not quit. I welcome the opportunity to meet with you to discuss my goals and achievements as well as skills that would benefit your academic program. Thank you for your time and consideration. I look forward to hearing from you soon.
