My focus will be on ACT reading, ACT English, AP English, writing, grammar, vocabulary, AP History, social studies and government including the Constitution. I was a state of Illinois certified teacher. I am a student oriented person who likes to work with students one-on-one or in a group. I let the parents and students tell me what they need me to do. My job will be to identify where the student is having difficulty and then help the student succeed.
I am available to tutor almost any time in ACT reading, ACT English, US or world history, US constitution and government. My experience as a teacher will allow me to connect with the parents and students in a positive proactive manner. Parents and students come first.
My students nominated me for Who's Who Among America's Teachers in 1998 and 2000. I still have the plaques. It was proof that my relationship with students was very strong. I felt it really was an award for them. I hope to continue helping students succeed!
I do not give up! My focus will be on ACT reading, ACT English, AP English, writing, grammar, vocabulary, AP History, social studies and government including the Constitution. I was a state of Illinois certified teacher. I am a student oriented person who likes to work with students one-on-one or in a group. I let the parents and students tell me what they need me
John taught me how to understand each paragraph. He also taught me when and where to use commas. We reviewed over subject and verbs. He also taught me to understand the vernacular by acquiring some vernacular books.
Very knowledgble and my daughter felt very comfortable and is extremely happy and explained very clearly in what topics will be covered during tutoring session.Looking forward to take more classes.
John was very thorough and patient with my younger brother during the tutoring section. So far, my brother is really enjoying the lessons with him.
John was patient and thorough. Had a excellent grasp of AP US History. Even helped my son after the lesson by sending him more information! Went above and beyond.
John has been helping my Freshman daughter for ACT, he has helped her understand the ACT forma and how to master the concepts. With his help in just last couple of months she is already starting to feel comfortable and is consistently scoring much higher in the prep tests. The concepts shared by him have also helped her improve on her Honors English class.
I have very much enjoyed working with John. He is professional, patient and accurate. I have worked with 2/other tutors with not very good experience or results. I am grateful to have met John, and will continue to use his services.
John has been a great help for both my boys, 7th and 10th grade students. John will continue with ACT prep on a weekly basis. He provides great insight to what is expected for ACT and I am looking forward to him working with my boys on a long term basis.
John has done a great job in helping my son believe that he can achieve much higher scores and get motivated to focus his attention on preparing diligently for the ACT. I would recommend John to anyone looking to raise their test scores in the Reading section of the ACT.
Very knowledgeable tutor who is patient, encouraging and humorous! He individualizes the sessions to your personal goals. He really enjoys what he does!
Very patient and very experienced! John is working with my son to improve his writing. I think he tackles the problem from the correct angle.
John is excellent at encouragement and positive reinforcement. Although there was a little miscommunication about the left-knee-bend element of my swing at the beginning of the lesson, all the other techniques were easy to understand from that point forward. Whenever I had a question to clarify an element of technique, John was good at clarifying the technique with a specific answer. John had a nice balance between letting me just swing for a while and knowing when to jump in and suggest a technique correction. When I made a bad shot, he would let me know what element of my technique produced that bad shot so I could connect my lapse in technique to that specific type of bad shot. John also had a good suggestion about having "one swing thought" every time I swung. This was a useful suggestion because it kept me focused on swinging properly without giving me too many aspects of technique to focus on at once.
John is a fantastic tutor. He is very patient and understands what his students are struggling with. He is a good listener, observers and can easily assess what the issue is to help his students. My son needed some help with his ACT Reading and English writing and now he is doing much better and actually looks forward to his sessions with John. I’d recommend John to anybody looking to improve their results in the ACT Reading and English Writing.

John was very patient and kind and gave many examples to help my child understand the material. My child felt comfortable asking John questions. He was very positive throughout the tutoring session.
John recently helped me with proofreading and grammatical English tips. He is highly experienced teacher and knows a lot about different fields and cultures which makes him to understand better what you exactly are trying to say and can help you to translate them in a perfect possible way. He is very patient and has a great sense of humor which makes the sessions more fun. You learn a lot without getting bored! He not only is very knowledgeable but also very responsible person. Despite his busy schedule, to help me to complete my work before my deadline, he made enough time for me to make sure he has reviewed all the important points and has addressed all my questions. I had a great experience with him and appreciate his time and help. He is someone who you can count on him in many ways. I can assure that you will enjoy his lessons and will be highly satisfied.

We didn't have time to waste with the test just around the corner, so we appreciated John's quick response. John has given my son a different approach to help him with his reading on the ACT. Because we waited too long to get help, his tips will be something my son can utilize quickly to help him bring his score up a couple points. Thanks John!
John has tutored my child couple of times. He was able to quickly adapt to curriculum we were following and put my child at ease. His broad experience in multiple disciples is a great asset. He is very flexible with timings as well. We will continue to use his services.

I am taking ESL classes with Mr. John. He is very good, took extra time to point out my weakness and encourges a lot. Very statisfying. Flexible with times also. Great, very professional teacher.
My son is very comfortable working with John. He is very helpful and willing to go the extra mile. John has been working with his reading and helping him decode difficult vocabulary words by making a word list in his notebook. Also, when he did his social studies reading, he went in details to talk about the different battles which my son enjoyed and also went out of his way to show where the historical battle events took place on the internet map. He is working with my son on his writing now and breaking down on how to make his writing better.
And another plus is after his homework tutor, John teaches guitar lessons so this makes it very convenient for us. He was very helpful and thoughtful by going the extra mile to get the stuff that we needed for their first guitar lessons.
Overall, John is a very knowledgeable teacher, patient, and very good at explaining the materials to my son. He is very flexible with his schedules that we meet with him every Saturday. I am lucky to have found this website and picked John as the first tutor.
John takes great interest on what he is teaching. He is helping me on pronunciation skills, which is a hard task. After so many years of mistaken sounds I need of John's patience and encouragement to succeed. He provides both of them in large quantities.
John is a really great tutor. He reviewed some of my papers. He put his best efforts toward my work. He is very nice person and he really has an understanding nature.
John F. did a very good job of putting our daughter at ease, helping to get the most effective use of the time spent. He was able to tailor his vast experience to her learning style, while pointing out different ways to take in the information. He did not tell her the answers and taught how to apply the techniques in the future. Best of all the end result was improved letter grade and skills that she could apply going forward. He was easy to work with to set up appointments and timely with his responses. We will use his services again and recommend John to others.
My son likes him a lot. I am glad I found the right teacher for him. Looking forward for many more sessions.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
ACT English is a very important part of the exam process. A thorough tutorial in this area is a good way to prepare for the test.
My focus will be on all segments of the test
and how best to use the time allotted to complete the exam. Reviewing ACT test booklets will be used as well to improve the students test taking ability.
The reading test on the ACT is an important part of the test. It is important for the student to understand the meaning of each passage. I will help the ACT test takers obtain the way to understand the concepts of the ACT reading tests. The best way to do this is help the student break down the passages into parts and then understand the entire meaning of the reading passage.

Many students that I have taught were surprised that government is one way of protecting citizens civil rights. It is important for students to know that our rights are part of our government structure.
The law is there to ensure that we all have our protection and freedom. I can show you
how to find and understand government.

Reading comprehension is an important part of elementary education. Students must be able to understand what the author is saying.
By tutoring elementary students in such a way as to understand the meaning of words they may not understand, the student can begin to understand the idea of the author.
I can bring the student to the comprehension level after a few lessons, based on my teaching experience.
The SAT reading test is an exam of how well the student can comprehend vocabulary and the meaning of certain reading passages. The way to approach this test is to carefully read the question and seek inferences that will point the student to the answer. This is what I will do as a tutor of SAT reading.
I can get a student through this!

Knowing the meaning of words can be so important for students. That is vocabulary.
The more vocabulary words you know, very often it can mean the difference in passing or failing a test or a class. Having a good knowledge of word meanings can also make you do well in many different subjects! I can make a difference in your vocabulary skills.
I have a Master's degree in History from Roosevelt University in Chicago. My transcript for this degree is available to any parent. I taught world history for 12 years. My state of Illinois teaching certificates are available at ISBE.net. I also have tutored many students in world history. World history is an important subject. Many students find it very interesting. My approach to tutoring world history is similar to my teaching methods. I explain historical concepts to students including difficult words so they can comprehend the textbook and the teacher's requirements. I will then check the student's ability to understand the concepts in the current school lesson. And if necessary, I will continue to review important concepts to the student.
