Thank you for taking the time to look at my profile. My name is Matthew. I graduated summa cum laude from the Southern Illinois University - Edwardsville with a Bachelor's Degree in English and a minor in History. After completing my studies, I moved on to graduate school at the University of Illinois where I graduated summa cum laude with my Masters in Science in Library and Information Science.
During my time in school, I was always inspired by professors who were very invested in what they were teaching. My tutoring style is intended to reflect this; I want to impart the same enjoyment in my students that my teachers shared with me.
English, especially English Literature, is a much less structured discipline than Algebra or Science. There's no "cheat sheet" for forming an opinion on a work of literature and, frankly, that's what I love most about it. When talking about literature or when trying to help someone understand a work of literature, I try to encourage people to form their own opinions about what a particular line of text means, and how it is relevant to the rest of the work. I do this by providing as much information as possible about the author, their background, and their state of mind when creating the work being analyzed.
