I love helping students to succeed. It is my job as a certified teacher in all the sciences and social sciences to help students become aware of their strengths and teach them methods to overcome their weaknesses. Usually just a few sessions and a lot a positive reinforcement will work wonders with a frustrated student. I consider my student's success as my measure of my own success.

I have many years of teaching experience in all types of environments with all types of students. As a substitute in several districts for many years, I have been in all types of schools and classrooms. I have also taught in a private high school, college, the business world, and in a children's hands on science museum. My background is a broad brush of many different teaching experiences and I bring this experience to the table with each student I work with.

I began my teaching in the social science areas of Economics, Government (Political science) and Sociology and through additional schooling I have become certified in Psychology, AP U.S. History, World History, as well as AP Biology, AP Earth Science, Chemistry and Physics. I also love to write and have taught literature, composition, creative writing, and Argument and Rhetorical Analysis. I particularly like to help students analyze and improve their study skills and have been quite successful at this.

Please see an example of my work in the Lessons section where I wrote an explanation of Active Transport for the Biology section.

My tutoring area is between South Elgin and the north side of Aurora. Unfortunately, Naperville is just too far away to include.

If chosen, I will do my best to help your child succeed at his/her highest level possible.

Knowledgeable, kind, patient tutor for my teen

Diane is wonderful! She has been tutoring my teen in a few different subjects, primarily APUSH and SAT prep. My daughter enjoys her tutoring sessions and has they have a great repore together. My daughter is obviously more confident in her studies and her grades have improved. We are very happy to have found Diane and will be continuing to schedule her for as long as we can. Knowledgeable and helpful to my daughter

Gave my daughter more confidence in the subject of AP Bio and was patient with her throughout. Continually asked questions to ensure that my daughter understood. Only issue was that that the session went on for 2.25 hours. Too much time for my senior to continue to absorb and cost more than I anticipated.

Tutor responded:

The goal for that single lesson was to go through the study guide for the upcoming test. The study guide was 4 single spaced typed pages and covered 3+ very technical chapters in the book. I worked as quickly and efficiently as I could to accomplish the stated objective. Either you or your daughter could have stopped the lesson at any time. I was trying my very hardest to help your daughter cover all the material to be on her test. She was tired, but still attentive when we ended. She was a very nice student and I enjoyed working with her very much.

knowledgeable and helpful tutor

Diane worked with my daughter to help prepare her for the English, reading, and science sections of the ACT test. Diane was thorough and patient during the tutoring sessions and developed a good relationship with my daughter. Diane wanted my daughter to succeed and worked diligently with her to that end. Now that the ACT is over, Diane and my daughter plan to continue tutoring to improve her study skills as my daughter prepares for college next year.
