I have been teaching for the past eight years and have a real passion for teaching English and Spanish. I have lived abroad for most of my life (in Mexico) and taught English in private schools in several cities throughout Mexico. I have worked with children ages 4 thru 40 and enjoy all ages. I have also worked in all settings ranging from one on one tutoring to 40 students in a classroom. I am fluent in Spanish and English.
My specialty is teaching English as a second language, but I also enjoy teaching Spanish,History, Geography and I love Grammar. I am friendly and easygoing and believe in making my classes fun and enjoyable. I want my students to enjoy my classes and look forward to them. I strongly believe that learning should be fun!! I highly recommend Alexandra to anyone who wants to learn Spanish. She is one of those people who can probably teach any subject and she is very patient!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am Mexican-American (my parents are American but I was born in Mexico)and lived in Mexico for many, many years before moving to the Chicago area recently. I am fluent in Spanish and English and have been teaching ESL since I was 18. I have taught ESL in a variety of settings and to students of all ages. I make grammar understandable to the English language learner and help my students transform their acquired knowledge into real, practical conversations.
I enjoy working one on one and in groups and believe that learning should be fun. My classes are easygoing and my students learn through a wide range of teaching techniques.
I was born in Mexico 40 years ago to two American parents. I lived in Mexico for 37 years before moving to the Chicago area 3 years ago, so I have been bilingual all my life. However, speaking a language does not mean that you can automatically be a teacher. Teaching a language requires a deep understanding of the way a language works. Understanding all of the nuances in Spanish is particularly challenging. I have developed this understanding over the past decade and have a simple and straightforward way of explaining it to my students. I truly enjoy teaching and can help any student acquire better language skills.
