About Heather

As an artist, I am constantly trying to get others to see things in a new light. I love passing along valuable skill sets to those that eager to learn. I've been teaching my nephew to paint since he was able to hold a brush. He (now 6) treasures the time we spend painting. As a teenager, I would babysit my three little cousins from time to time. One of our many activities was drawing. I'm proud to say that my (now grown) cousins still draw, and one of them is pretty talented.

I have taught several bookbinding workshops since graduating with my Bachelors in Fine Art from Ringling College of Art and Design. I have found that I really enjoy the process of teaching others a craft. I love seeing the "Aha" moments when everything clicks. Ideally, I would paint and draw for a living. Commissions would be great, but painting anything I wanted would be phenomenal. Currently I work full time making handmade leather items for tablets and devices. While it is not the dream, I get to sketch, develop, and create new products. I am also responsible for all employee training. So, I still get to teach.

I specialize in Drawing, Painting, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, and Graphic Design.

I believe I can teach ANYONE. Don't get me wrong... ultimately, you have to put in the work; however, I can provide you with the valuable tips, training, knowledge and skill sets to succeed.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Drawing

With a Bachelors degree in Fine Art from Ringling College of Art and Design and almost 2 decades of hands on drawing experience, I have the skills to draw just about anything I can see or imagine. This combined with my passion for teaching make me an ideal candidate to show you how to draw. I like to start with basic principles (line, form, value, texture, color, space, etc) and techniques. Once we have established a solid foundation, we can begin to fine tune the details until you, too, can draw ANYTHING.

Painting

With a Bachelors degree in Fine Art from Ringling College of Art and Design and over a decade of hands on painting experience, I have the skills to draw just about anything I can see or imagine. This combined with my passion for teaching make me an ideal candidate to show you how to paint.
I am highly skilled will Acyrlics, but can also teach the basics of oils and watercolors. I like to start with general painting practices, color theory & mixing, application & techniques. Having a good drawing foundation will help, but is not required. Once the student has a solid understanding of the medium, ground, and ways to apply, we can begin to fine tune the ability.

Very great!

It is always useful for me to see the foundations of a craft from the bottom up. Heather's approach is that way- we began by drawing what we saw. I have plenty of room for growth, but this was a great lesson.
