I'm Matthew W. A senior at Northwestern University who will be graduating after the Winter Quarter. I recently took the MCAT exam and plan on applying to medical school next Spring. In my gap year I plan on working for Teach for America. I began getting involved with tutoring and teaching in high school where I worked for a summer program for underprivileged students from my hometown. I continued my involvement with tutoring at Northwestern as I became an academic mentor. The Academic Mentor Program at Northwestern entrusts students who have excelled in select subject areas to tutor that subject over the course of the year to a group of 8-10 students. Through that program, I tutored general chemistry over my sophomore year and genuinely enjoyed watching the students succeed.

This past summer I worked at Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago as a member of the School Services Team. I helped coordinate their summer camp called Urban Explorers which involved 8 weeks, each with its own unique theme. This was an incredible experience for me as I was able to work one on one with children who craved not only knowledge, but also who just wanted a distraction from the monotony of the hospital.

Through these experiences I have realized how much I enjoy teaching and helping students become more proficient problem solvers.

Science is something that I fell in love with at a young age and studied it throughout high school and college. Currently, I am taking my last class to obtain a major in Biology at Northwestern with a cellular biology and physiology concentration. I have been working in the Miller research lab at Northwestern which is a bioengineering lab since the beginning of my Junior year. I have previously tutored general chemistry my sophomore year in college and since I took the MCAT recently, which covers general chemistry extensively, that material is extremely fresh.

Unlike most MCAT tutors who have not actually completed the MCAT exam, I believe that it will be extremely helpful for students to work with someone who has not only taken it, but has completed the exam recently. In addition, on the three provided AAMC practice exams I scored from the 98th-100th percentile. Once I receive my score (February, 26th) I will provide that information.
