Northwestern University (Radio-TV-Film)
Hi! My name is Megan, I am a sophomore at Northwestern, and I'm excited to tutor students! I've always teaching others, whether that's helping them with a problem on their homework or helping them to better understand academic concepts. I enjoy tutoring because I am able to help students understand the material better, which allows them to further their knowledge and passion for learning. I love to learn and hope to pass that love onto the students that I help.
This summer I really enjoyed helping a student figure out ideas for her college essays, reading through them, and giving suggestions that would make the essays stronger and that would make her an even stronger applicant. I especially enjoyed this tutoring because I wasn't just helping her learn how to write a strong essay but I was helping her fulfill her dream of going to college to major in what she loves.
I feel that grammar is the first key to being a confident writer. Once you have the grammar skills, you are able to convey your ideas effectively in a thoughtful and stylistic way that will hook and impress your reader. I received an 800 on my SAT writing section and a 35 on my ACT English section along with continuing to expand my skills by writing many papers during my first year at Northwestern.
As a National Merit scholar, I understand how important the PSAT is. Just as I worked hard to study for it by taking many practice tests and helping my classmates study for it, I will work hard to make sure students understand the concepts that will make them sure to succeed.
I am excited to help student learn more and become more confident in their college essay writing and test taking abilities! Please contact me to learn more about me or to schedule lessons! Thank you! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
My first experience doing college counseling, research and essay writing was when I was applying to college: Doing extensive college research, writing lots of college essays, and figuring out what I was looking for and what colleges best fit those needs. This summer I got even more experience when I helped a student with her essays, helping her brainstorm and write them. I then read over the essays, edited them, and went over them with her to show her where she could improve to make her essays even better. I know how to write a good essays that will both help a student stand out to college admissions officers and create a competitive and well-rounded application, and those are the skills I brought when helping this student and the skills that I have developed and will bring when helping others!
