I have a Master's degree in Special Education with endorsements in learning disabilities, social/emotional disorders, and over 20 years of experience working with children and adults. I have worked in residential facilities, hospitals, private homes, and both public and private schools to educate students with learning disabilities, social/emotional disorders, mental illnesses, spectrum disorders, cognitive delays, executive functioning deficits, and ADHD.
My passion for teaching (special education, specifically) is rooted in my commitment to enhancing the lives of individuals with disabilities, as well as the lives of their families. Having worked in a myriad of settings, my most rewarding experiences as a private tutor have been the relationships that I have developed and the achievements that I have helped accomplish.
In addition to directly serving students and families, I collaborate with the educational team and related professionals to unify efforts towards common goals. I am available for consultation related to the development and implementation of IEP's and 504 plans to ensure that students' needs are met both inside and outside of the classroom; this may be done through submitting reports, electronic communication, and/or face-to-face meetings.
I use a wide variety of creative strategies to guide students in their independent ability to decode language, resulting in significant improvements in reading comprehension and written expression. In order to support the unique learning profiles of each individual student, I integrate visual, auditory, and/or kinesthetic modalities to support areas of strength and compensate for areas of deficiency.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
