As part of my responsibilities as a Prepress/Imaging Director for a consumer publisher, I was technical advisor to scores of in-house designers and imaging specialists. I helped them solve problems with file preparation and color on a daily basis through one-on-one sessions as well as workshops focused on specific skills. Problem solving is a great educational experience which I used as a teacher/mentor. Since learning and teaching are my passions. I've enjoyed providing instructional sessions for creative and imaging groups for over fifteen years. My approach is not to just "instruct" but to empower my students with hands-on learning and the ability to find their own creative solutions.
My second love is art and photography. I was fortunate to be able to establish an in-house food photography facility that produced and published studio images that rivaled outside production at quite a savings to our company. I look for the challenge to work with people struggling to gain control of their photographs and color printing. As a fine art photographer, I enjoy helping and teaching others to reach their artistic goals. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I problem-solved, advised, and instructed scores in-house designers in a desktop publishing workflow using QuarkExpress and later Adobe InDesign during my over twenty years as a Prepress/Imaging Director for a consumer publisher.
I also have extensive experience with Adobe Photoshop and Acrobat from helping designers construct files for 4-color proofing and printing. I have hands-on experience with the complete digital publishing workflow and have conducted many one-on-one instructional sessions and workshops with many students (employees).
During over twenty years as a Prepress/Imaging Director for a consumer publisher, I've problem-solved, advised, and instructed many in-house imaging specialists in how to retouch and color manage images for print publication. I was also fortunate to be able to setup the company's first in-house food and product photography studio. I not only designed constructed, and trained, but also personally retouched, altered, and color managed all images.
Since digital art photography is my passion, I have developed advanced skills in shooting, retouching (Photoshop), color-managing, and fine art printing photos that have sold online and at art fairs. I have also done retouching, scanning, and restoration for The Field Museum and Northwestern University.
