I work at Northwestern University holding PhD in mathematics and physics. My tutoring experience (I am tutoring almost 10 years) clearly shows that the learning style and the ability to simplify subjects are truly important for the student’s progress in Calculus. In addition, it is very significant to know several mathematical tricks. I teach these simple tricks that make it easier to do the entire calculations or to check their various stages. I also work with all of my students on their ability to simplify mathematical problems as well as on their organizational and study habits. These skills are vital for learning Calculus. Sometimes insufficient knowledge of other mathematical disciplines creates series obstacles for the student’s progress in Calculus. During the sessions I try to clarify and eliminate such obstacles. The above strategy allows the significant improvement in Calculus scores of students after a few tutoring sessions.

I have tutored differential equations to college students for about 10 years. Taking into account that this mathematical subject serves as a foundation and the powerful analytical tool for many scientific disciplines including physics, engineering, chemical and biological kinetics, I concentrated on practical applications of differential equations. In particular, during the sessions my students have a lot of fun realizing how these equations can be used to describe such seemingly distinct processes as heat propagation diffusion of chemical reagents, harmonic motion of the oscillating spring, evolution of genetic populations and others. I also use these examples to develop students’ skills in solving differential equations by various methods, particularly by iterative integration, separation of variables, by method of undetermined coefficients, by the Laplace transform, etc.

I am a research professor at Northwestern University with PhD degree in mathematics and physics. To prove simplicity of trigonometry, diagrams and geometrical analogies are widely used.
