Hi! I'm a friendly, caring tutor with a low-key, laid-back style. I'm patient, responsible and won't let you down.
I graduated from Brandeis University with a double major in Spanish and history. I'm a certified high school Spanish teacher, and am currently pursuing an MA in Spanish literature at Loyola University. I've studied abroad in Cuernavaca, Mexico and Madrid.
In addition to knowing Spanish, I spent a year after college teaching adult education and GED preparation through Americorps. Some of my students were ESL as well. I enjoyed this experience very much.
In terms of test prep, I have tutored and taught ACT preparation for the Huntington Learning Center in Skokie. I am familiar with and strong in every area of the test, especially English and math.
I'm currently a teacher assistant at Highland Park High School working with special needs students and English language learners. I believe that knowing a language other than English is an asset, and if you have a special need I will treat you like the valuable person you are.
Thanks for looking at my profile, and have a great day. Hi! I'm a friendly, caring tutor with a low-key, laid-back style. I'm patient, responsible and won't let you down.

Anna has been helping my daughter for a couple of months now and has really built her confidence up! Anna is patient and affirming. My daughter's ability to understand the subject matter (algebra) has improved directly in proportion to her confidence because of Anna's support.
Anna was very nice. She was patient with My son and took her time. He was nervous at first but felt good about the session after it ended. Good first meeting
Anna is an amazing tutor, she knows what to teach and is very patient! Every time I ask her a question, she lets me learn more, and she also brings high school stuff in advance.
My son really enjoyed his lesson and felt it really helped with his Spanish homework. Anna was very good at utilizing the school Google classroom to immediately work on the lesson he needed to practice. It was a very productive session.
Anna has been coming to my house for the last six months. I started a very difficult math course with a wide range of subject material. Anna was sharp & on point with everything the course threw at us. She was Prompt and prepared for every session, and encouraging all the way. I just took my final exam today and I know I nailed it. I also know I could not have done it without her. She was patient with me during the easy stuff & very clear in explaining the difficult parts. Any one who needs a math tutor needs to call Anna S.
The lesson with Anna was very disappointing! She was not prepared for the topic, even though I gave her very specific topics that I wished to study. She didn't even bring a pencil. She seemed to have a lot of difficulty explaining the process of working through problems, she would skip large steps and just give me the answer. This is not a tutor I will use again.
Anna has been very helpful to my daughter. She is patient and very good a honing in on helping her with her weaknesses. She is also a real confidence builder!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I teach algebra 1 to small groups as part of my job as a teacher assistant and have tutored several students in this subject.
I've tutored three students in Algebra 2 through Wyzant, as well as helping others with this subject as a teacher assistant.
I have worked with ESL students of various ages. In my current job, I work individually with several Mexican immigrant students learning English. While studying abroad in Mexico, I tutored a six-year-old child in English. I also volunteered at Brandeis with a middle school English language learner from Russia, and encountered an adult ESL student from Poland at Association House.
As an Americorps volunteer, I taught adult students in GED preparation at Association House of Chicago. The students there were at a wide range of levels, from a non-reader to those at a high school level. I taught all GED subjects.
I have taught prealgebra at a high school for three years and tutored several students in this subject.
I am a certified secondary Spanish teacher and have an MA from Loyola University in Spanish language and literature. I have studied abroad in Cuernavaca, Mexico and Madrid, Spain.
I am currently working with special needs students at Highland Park High School. I'm a teacher assistant in a program within the school of about 25 students, many of whom have autism, learning disabilities, or Down Syndrome. Whatever each one's particular situation and level of functioning may be, I have really enjoyed working with them and helping them succeed. I am comfortable helping students of various ability levels in all the basic academic subjects.
