I began teaching sewing in the '70s, but I learned how to embroider when I was five years old. Sewing and teaching sewing are two of my passions. If you are a beginner, you will be given a list of sewing supplies and we may even go on a field trip to a fabric store so that you can learn the various properties that fabrics possess in regard to drapability, texture and ease of sewing. You can purchase your supplies while we are at the store.

Donna is a great instructor. She was so patient with me and was very good at explaining things step by step. I asked her to teach me how to make a throw pillow cover using a throw I had at home as the template. She taught me how to translate the pillow into a sewing template, how to sew in a zipper and more. I still can't believe that I did this - it is so professional looking, including the zipper! I am excited to set up more lessons!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I began embroidering at the age of 5. I have done embroidery by hand and some machine embroidery for the past 50 yrs.
In addition I have taught hand embroidery to children and adults for years.
Learning how to do hand needle work is a precursor to learning how to sew using a sewing machine. It helps you achieve the tactile skills necessary to get a 'feel' for fabric while adding a touch of elegance to garments and other items.
Hand needle work is not just limited to embroidery...beads may be added for more bling. Today embroidery is all the rage. It's fun and easy to learn and is not an expensive hobby.
Hand needle work can also be applied to the repair of clothing, hemming skirts, pants,
sewing on buttons, etc. thus saving you many dollars. And that's a good thing in this economy. See my listing under: SEWING
I have been making my own clothes since I was 11 yrs. old. In 2008, I won the Simplicity Creative Sewing Contest Grand Prize for sewing an elegant coat. The Grand Prize was a trip to Paris, France for 2. It was a great trip.
