I have been tutoring all levels of math for 20 years. I have worked with students with learning disabilities, gifted students, and anything in between. I have experience tutoring elementary school math, middle school math, pre algebra, Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, Precalculus, Calculus AB, and Calculus BC.
I also have experience tutoring all subjects on the ACT and SAT. I have tutored ACT and SAT prep for about 7 years. I help students with understanding concepts tested and test taking strategies to help prepare them for these tests.
I completed my Master's of Arts degree in teaching at National Louis University in 2015. I have been teaching math at Waukegan High School since 2014, and I work with struggling students. Most of the students I work with are bilingual. Prior to working at Waukegan, I taught for 7 years at several different homeschool groups. I have also taught two sessions of ACT prep at Elgin Community College. Through the years, I have learned various techniques and strategies for working with struggling learners, students with learning disabilities, gifted students, and students that have English as a second language.
I love working with students and helping them to understand math. I also love to help students improve their scores on tests.
I am a certified math teacher with extensive experience in ACT test prep, SAT test prep, elementary math, middle school math, Prealgebra, Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, Precalculus, Calculus AB, and Calculus BC.

My daughter has had two lessons with Shelley and they have been great. Calculus is not an easy subject and finding a tutor was difficult We tried two other tutors and they were not a good fit. One had good reviews but was not a good fit for us. He worked to slow and taught like a teacher in a class room which is not what my daughter needed. The other was a bit better, but if my daughter had a question about topics that would be covered later the tutor would say don't worry about that now. My daughter likes to look ahead it helps her. I feel that if the student asks a question they should do their best as the tutor to answer it. We are very happy with Shelley's way of teaching. We will continue to work with Shelley until the end of the school year as long as she continues to tutor. I would highly recommend Shelley as a tutor she makes you feel comfortable.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have tutored ACT prep for many years. I put together math concepts that are commonly found on the ACT, and I help students with calculator usage as well as strategies and techniques. I am a certified high school math teacher.
I teach Algebra 1 and Algebra 2 at Larkin High School.
I have tutored AP calculus AB, AP Calculus BC, and students taking calculus at ECC for several years.
