About Maureen

I knew in second grade that I wanted to be a teacher. Keeping true to that desire, I became a teacher and taught in the Illinois Public School System for thirty-five years. My first experience was to teach English and reading to eighth grade students. From there, I had success as a high school English and physical education teacher, an elementary and middle school physical education teacher, a middle school counselor, coach, assistant principal and principal.

I am still learning and I love it! I enjoy seeing the "ah ha" that happens when a student understands the concept. Teaching is a passion for me. Watching students grow each day in their understanding of the concepts presented exhilarates me. I've heard that if you love what you do, you never work a day in your life. How true!

In terms of my education, I earned a doctorate degree in Curriculum, Instruction and Educational Psychology at Loyola University in Chicago. My research topic was mentoring, mathematics achievement and self-esteem, and how they interplay with one another.
I graduated with my masters and doctorate degrees with a 4.0/4.0 grade point average.

Do you need some assistance? If yes, I would love to help you achieve your goals!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Basketball

I coached middle and high school basketball for over twenty years. I have a degree in physical education, and played on the varsity high school and college teams.

English

I have used Microsoft Outlook for many years to keep my professional and personal calendars. I am familiar with all the things that one can do to enhance one's ability to keep a calendar up to date, at all times. I am very comfortable with all facets of this program. I have probably used this program for the past ten years.

Microsoft Outlook

I am very familiar and proficient with Microsoft Outlook. I used in both personally and professionally for at least ten years. Knowing how to repeat events, schedule events and conference with others' calendars, are just a few of the skills that I have with this program. It is fairly user -friendly and easy to teach to others.

Softball

I have a degree in physical education and played 12" softball with a glove for approximately twenty years.

Study Skills

I was an educator in the public schools of Illinois for thirty-five years. I taught language arts, reading, Quest and physical education. Inherent in being successful in any discipline, one must know one's learning style and how to best use that style to learn to study most efficiently.
Part of teaching any discipline includes teaching the study skills that allows the student to be successful in that discipline.

Volleyball

I coached middle and high school volleyball for approximately twenty years. I have a degree in physical education.
