AS it pertains to tutoring, what sets me apart from other photographers is my grounding in the basics of the art. I was accomplished in the Ansel Adams school of B&W imaging and archival photography processes long before the advent of the digital camera. I have fully embraced the latest in digital photography, which has been simplified by my my grasp of the fundamentals of camera function and image composition. I believe understanding the fundamentals is the quickest way to become proficient in mastery of the complexities of the modern digital camera and related technologies.
My former career as a corporate sales executive has given me good communication skills in explaining often complex subjects in simple terms. As a father of four I certainly have experience working with young adults. I am gratified that each of my now adult children have incorporated photography into their everyday lives.
Some time ago I was invited to to enter a photo contest for an exclusive and well known Chicago organization. Having never entered a competition before, I was delighted to have won First Place in 7 of 9 categories, including nature, sports, landscape, B&W, and child photography. That led to several public art exhibits, and then to the Fine Art Show venues. I am now invited to exhibit in all the major Fine Art Shows in the Chicago area, including the Gold Coast Art Fair, and Chicago's One of a Kind show. My works sell for as much as $1,900.00.
My students will have access to a full professional studio environment with professional lighting tools, as well as location lighting experience. They can have hands on use of all formats of cameras - including DSLR (Nikon), Medium Format (Hasselblead), and large format view cameras (Sinar). Also access and instruction - all the tools used by professional today.
So if you or your student have just gotten their first DSLR, or if you are a serious amateur looking to expand your photographic horizons, please get in touch with me. I will direct you to my website, and if you like what you see, we'll go from there!

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have been using Photoshop for my professional photography business since CS2 - now on CS6. I sell over $30,000 of my fine art photography each year, most of of those pieces shot in camera raw, using Adobe Camera Raw to enhance the propriety file, than many if not most of Photoshops features to create HIgh Dynamic Range (HDR) digital high definition panoramas - with file as large as 1.5GB, and prints up to 44in X 96in. I also use Photoshop for retouching and enhancing my glamour/ portraiture work.
I am a photographer with 35+ years of study and practice. Prior to the advent of digital photography, I embraced and practiced Ansel Adams' methodologies of pre-visualization and archival processing and print making. More recently I have fully embraced and incorporated digital photography into my work.
The last several years I have become a full time Fine Art Photographer. I am juried into all the major Fine Art Shows in the greater Chicago area, including the Chicago Gold Coast Show and Chicago's One of a Kind show. My works sell for upwards of $1,900.00.
I maintain a studio complete with professional lighting (Speedotron / Chimera equipment), and am also skilled in location photography for portraiture and fashion. My portfolio includes HDR Digital Panoramic works, beauty/fashion, portraiture, and architecture. I shoot DSLR (Nikon) Medium format (Hasselblad) and large format (Sinar) cameras - all of which my students will be exposed to. Also skilled in Photoshop (CS6) PhotMatrix, GigaPan, and ImagePrint - all on a Mac environment on which I can train my students.
A former corporate executive, I am devoting all my time to my avocation. I have four grown children (thus experience with young and old) - all of whom have embraced photography as a part of their daily lives and/or professions.
