Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (Undecided)
My name is Dylan and I am willing to offer guitar and bass lessons to students of all ages and skill levels.
Experience and Skills:
In general, I know a lot about music. I've been writing and recording my own music ever since I started playing guitar. I've recorded seven albums. I've been in a band for 3 years and have played many live shows. I know theory, and music history. I took classes on both of those subjects in high school and did well.
I have given lessons before, while in high school. I have taken lessons too, so I know what it's like on both ends of giving lessons and taking lessons. I am proficient in various styles on guitar and bass, and I will explain more about each of those below.
I've been playing guitar for about ten years now. Today I can play all kinds of chords like standard chords, Barre chords, Jazz chords, etc. I can play a wide variety of genres/styles such as blues, rock, funk, hip hop, reggae, ska, punk, and heavy metal. Mostly I play with a guitar pick, but I can play finger style picking and SOME classical as well.
I've been playing bass for about eight years. I can play with a pick, finger style, and slap bass proficiently. I can also play a wide variety of genres/styles on bass too, such as rock, punk, funk, hip hop, metal, etc.
My teaching methods can depend on your skill level. For example, if you were a beginner at guitar, I would teach you the names of the strings and how to tune the guitar first, and then some basic chords. If you're already at a more advanced level at guitar, I would teach you more complicated chords and about playing solos, for example. I can teach you anything you want me to, like if you have specific songs you want to learn.
I don't use traditional sheet music or notation, but I am proficient with guitar tabs and chord sheets. I can teach you how to use those too. I understand that people learn guitar and bass playing in different ways. I am a visual learner, and when I play I look at hand shape and position in relation to the frets. Others may learn better if they think about it in terms of notes and chords. However you understand it best is the way I will teach it to you.
Thank you for your interest in my guitar lessons. My name is Dylan and I am willing to offer guitar and bass lessons to students of all ages and skill levels.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
