University of Massachusetts Amherst (Biochemistry)
Hello, my name is Justin. I am a college graduate who has a bachelor's degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and minor in Mathematics. Outside of tutoring, I am a scientist with a plethora of research and laboratory experiences in the biological sciences.
I have over 4 years of experience doing freelance one-on-one tutoring with students in many subject areas. My strengths and expertise are in mathematics (i.e. algebra, geometry, pre-calculus, calculus, statistics, etc.), and the sciences (i.e. biology, chemistry, physics, etc.). Additionally, I also have experience preparing students for various standardized exams, especially SAT, ACT, GRE, and MCAT. My client base consists of people of all ages, ranging from middle school children to college students. I strive to optimize the learning capabilities of each student by implementing methods and strategies that tailor to the student's academic needs.
I am a dedicated and passionate tutor who works diligently with students to grasp the major concepts and topics within any subject. I identify student's weaknesses, and explain seemingly complex concepts and topics in a manner that is often simple and easy to understand. To reinforce students' understanding of concepts, I provide meaningful guidance by assisting students with problem sets and questions. Based on my previous tutoring experiences, students learn best when they develop a strong grasp of key concepts and are able to relay their knowledge independently on problem sets/questions.
I strongly believe that students have the ability to succeed in any academic subject or standardized exams if they have the proper guidance and a willingness to put forth consistent effort in their work. As a tutor, I will do my best to help achieve mastery and success. If you are interested in my services or have any questions that you would like to ask, please feel free to contact me. Justin has helped my kids with homework that they are having trouble on. He also teaches them new lessons to help them in school. He is great at teaching subjects such as math and science.
I have worked with Justin for over 6 sessions and will still be working with him as I start taking Chem 2 next semester. I have already seen test scores increase dramatically, as well as overall better understanding of how Chemistry works. Not only does Justin teach what you ask him to, but he gives intellectual insight to understanding the subject better which in turn helps you do better. Very intelligent individual, not to mention down to earth and all around a great guy.
Justin is extremely accommodating. We have thoroughly gone over the fundamentals in algebra 1. He has given clear understanding and given ample time for me to work out a problem. Great tutor and very smart individual
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
Along with mathematics, I have been fascinated with various aspects of computer programming. In college, I took introductory course in programming and instantly enjoyed it. Afterwards, I took a few additional intermediate courses related with data structures and algorithms designs. My programming language of choice is Java.
I truly believe that anyone can learn computer programming if he/she puts forth time, patience, and effort. As a tutor, I am very happy to give the proper guidance and advice to the neophytes out there. It isn't an easy subject to master, but once you understand basic programming, you can appreciate the beauty and applications of programming languages in our technologically advanced world.
I recently took the actual MCAT exam, and scored a 32. This required a few months of solid preparation. My strengths in this exam were primarily in the sciences. Thus, I can tutor anyone who may need help with either the physical sciences or the biological sciences section of the exam. Moreover, I can give advice and tips on how to best approach the MCAT exam.
