In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I taught Preschool (3-5 year-olds) for 8 years, First Grade for 2 years, and Second Grade for 3 years. I am very knowledgeable in Early Childhood/Primary aged curriculum, skills and needs. I provide a variety of activities for my students and differentiate according to students' needs.
I teach phonics in a fun way that my students can actively participate in every day. I enjoy developing games and activities around the phonics skills to make it exciting. Starting with assessing the students' knowledge of the alphabet and letter sounds and moving onto blending letters and, finally, words. I have used a variety of phonics support materials including Modern Curriculum Press, Scott Foresman Reading Street and Heggerty Phonics.
