Spanish language and culture is a passion of mine, and has been since 9th grade and my first Spanish class. I have been to Venezuela and Honduras many times, and got my Bachelor of Arts in Spanish Literature from Georgia State University. I would be delighted to share my secrets of learning this exotic language and culture, along with all the other subjects that I mastered along the way - see the subjects in which I am certified by WyzAnt. Please note that I am a mother of two elementary school children, so my hours depend on their schedule. Free days are usually Tues-Thurs plus weekends. My hours fill up quickly, so contact me as soon as possible to see if I can fit you in. Thank you! I was very fortunate when I selected Maria as my tutor for learning Spanish. She has a deep passion for the Spanish language and a true desire to properly teach her students the proper techniques for learning the language.
The hour tutoring sessions are never enough. Always hungry to learn more about properly reading, writing, and most importantly speaking Spanish.
If I could afford more than an hour of her tutoring a week, I would do it in a heartbeat.
Maria was able to help my daughter feel more confident with her Spanish writing and conversation for her AP class.
We went over Gustar verbs and just basic present tense so she could get an idea of where I was at, then she have me a username and password to a website to help study which was super useful. Overall she was so fun to be around and very intuitive. Looking forward to future lessons with her !
My granddaughter liked Maria very much and wants to continue with her. She even taught her a little Spanish. She helped her with her homework and they did some lessons ahead.
Maria spent time with my 6th grade daughter, and, in addition to just teaching Spanish, made it interesting enough that my daughter wants to learn more.
Maria has turned my son's interest in Spanish around. He used to dread Spanish, now he walks around the house speaking it. My son really looks forward to his tutoring sessions! Thank you Maria!
I've completed 2 lessons with Maria and I am very pleased with my choice of a tutor. She is very patient and she also packs a lot of learning into one hour.
Maria has been coming to us for 2-3 weeks and we have seen immediate results and a rise in both our kids grades. She is diligent, hardworking, and very flexible. My 6th grade daughter and my 8th grade son are both very happy as are we as parents... She is patient and very thorough...
She has been a god-send to our kids and they connect with her and feel comfortable with her help!
I give Maria the highest recommendation as a tutor for kids and young adults and am very grateful we have found her to help our kids!
Maria is an excellent tutor. She is very patient and easy to reach that helps a lot in scheduling. She adapted easily to the learning style of my high schooler who successfully ended with an A. Thank you Maria!
My daughter is a sophomore in Spanish III with a goal of taking foreign language requirements prior to college. It's not her favorite subject, but she is committed to doing a good job. Maria has been an ideal tutor because she relates well to my typical teenager and keeps her engaged in the subject. Maria is such a pleasure to talk with. Her cultural experiences and love for the language shows in her passion for teaching. Maria has also been very flexible. If my daughter has a test she makes herself available to ensure she has the confidence going into that test. Next year my daughter will be in an Accel class and we anticipate the pace and expectations to intensify. We hope to keep Maria as her tutor and would recommend her without hesitation.
Maria comes well-prepared for each lesson and has a great attitude towards learning, which we really appreciate. She is also open to feedback from parents.
Maria is wonderful - relates well to my son and clearly understands how to teach. I wish she was my son's teacher, she would do a great job.
Maria is very flexible with her time when we schedule tutoring for my son. She is organized, and prepared. She helps my son to complete worksheet reviews and study for exams. Thank you Maria!
I was very please with her help. She was very helpful in points of studying Spanish. I would recommended her to friends and family.
Maria tutored my senior in AP Spanish and my sophomore in Spanish II. We thought she was wonderful. She loves the language and is great with teenagers. The fact that she is not a native speaker is actually a big plus as she is able to explain things that native speakers take for granted. She is extremely logical and she will teach whatever needs to be learned. She was organized, efficient and brought enrichment exercises for the girls to practice after the lessons. You will immediately like Maria.
Maria is an excellent teacher. She teaches not only the language but also its culture, so it gets interesting to learn. She is very pleasant to talk to, energetic and caring. My son's grade was dramatically improved. #1 recommendation for sure.
Marie was excellent. Made the lesson very enjoyable. I didn't feel pressured. Was very helpful with supplemental materials. Clearl enjoys teaching Spanish and has many insights into what is proper and improper to say. Thanks.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
In addition to loving math and always being in accelerated math classes and school when I was young, I got my associates in science in business education, my bachelor's in Spanish, and my Master's in Christian education.
I have had a passion for Bible studies since I was 8 years old. In high school I took a religion class and was very active in my church. In my college years I studies various different religions: Episcopal, Catholic, Lutheran, Baptist, and Methodist. I am especially interested in how archeology proves a lot of Old Testament and New Testament facts, and that it is a real part of our history. My teacher for Anthropology in college was a Christian Archaeologist, and the slides he showed us of his digs were simply eye opening. Now as a parent, I am deeply involved in the Children's Ministry aspect of things at the church. I am the Director of Children's Ministries. I plan to get my Masters in Christian Education in the next couple of years.
I was very interested in cosmetology in my latter high school years, but chose the modeling route instead. I got my Certificate in Female Modeling from John Casablancas, and got my first modeling contract from a division of Elite Modeling on LaSalle St., Chicago in 1992 after I returned from my year foreign exchange experience in Venezuela. However since I'm only 5'6", I didn't get many deals, and so I started again on the makeup side of things, helping other models do their makeup, helping the YMCA put on a benefit fashion show, teaching them how to walk, how to do their makeup and hair, and other modeling secrets. I am now more focused on Spanish and Bible studies, but you will always see me well put together, that modeling part will never leave my spirit :) fun times.
I have taught reading and writing to several other students. During college I studied different ways to help in this area as well.
I am a native English speaker, and have tutored ESOL privately in the past. I took classes on the subject while studying my Bachelor of Arts at Georgia State University as well.
I have always loved math - and I have tutored for over 20 years in basic math up until Algebra II.
Having my Masters degree in Christian education, I know that children have many ways in which they learn. I know of different learning styles as well, which help children in language acquisition and reading techniques.
I have been tutoring Spanish since I came home from a year-long foreign exchange student program to Venezuela in 1991. I got my bachelor's degree from Georgia State University and Spanish Literature as well.
I used several different techniques in studying when I was young, and as a returning student as an adult in the technology world. I was able to help many of my friends along the way as well; and would be delighted to look at what is currently being done and then implement some ideas.
