I possess a Bachelor of Science degree in Interdisciplinary Studies from Liberty University with major areas of Education and Social Studies. I also have an Associate degree in Theology from Christian Life College. I have reared three children all of whom have completed undergrad degree programs and the oldest is working on her second Master's degree at age 26. I believe in raising the bar for excellence and striving to become the best one can possibly be.
I have tutored my own children and scores of other youth primarily in after-school programs primarily in the area of Math and Science. I have helped several people with science fair project success winning at the school and district level - even to placing on the city stage.
My approach to tutoring is to first establish a baseline - determining where the student is, from an assessment which may be a combo of oral and written examination. From there based on time constraints (get a passing grade by end of current grading period or by end of school year) a plan is devised with the student, parent/guardian and school teacher to work as a team to meet our objective. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have programmed in various Cobol versions from AcuCobol, RM-Cobol and M-F Cobol since 1982. I have worked with various applications utilizing Cobol including ERP, EDI and loan servicing. I have written several thousand programs and updated and maintained in the tens of thousands for several hundred clients. I have supervised and mentored junior programmers throughout my career. The platforms upon which I have worked include Windows, Unix, AIX and Linux.
