About Stephanie

I am a recent graduate from Loyola University of Chicago. I received degrees in Secondary Education and Italian with a minor in English and a certification to teach students whose second language is English. I plan on becoming a teacher of Italian language. At my university, I volunteered as a writing tutor. I've studied abroad in Rome and have been fortunate enough to return to Italy a few times. This experience allowed me to immerse myself in Italian language and culture. In both Italian and English, I am able to help with reading, writing, and speaking skills. I am extremely flexible with what needs to be addressed in tutoring sessions because I believe that each session should be tailored to students' needs and abilities. I've had experiences working with middle school and high schools students with a range of language abilities (in both English and Italian). I can promise that I will give my best in helping you succeed and achieve.

During my college experience, I've had the opportunity to work with a wide range of students. I've worked with middle schoolers in a language arts classroom as well as a high school Italian class. I recently completed my student teaching at the high school level in Italian. Much of my work involved creating engaging and and authentic lessons for students on a daily basis. This required me to know my students not only on an academic level, but on a personal level. Lessons need to be relevant and interesting to students in order for learning to take place. Along with working in these classrooms, I've had experience working with students whose second language is English. I did some tutoring while abroad in Rome teaching local Italians English, as well as English tutoring in the Chicago-land area. In my clinical work, many students who I worked with were immigrant students or spoke another language at home. I am able to adapt lessons and content to aid students who experience language difficulties. This idea is not only perfect for English language learners, but for all students.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

English

English has always been a passion for me. I love to read and write. I minored in English in college and I am certified to teach English Language Arts grades 6-12. During college, I was a writing center tutor for 3 years. Although I completed my student teaching in Italian, I logged over 100 hours working with English Language Learners, and have an additional endorsement in ESL. I also have some classroom experience working in a language arts class.

Italian

I started studying Italian in high school, and continued my education in college where I earned a Bachelors Degree in Italian along with Secondary Education. I had the opportunity to study in Rome for a semester in 2013, and have been able to go back several times since. During college, I tutored students in Italian and also was an aide for an Italian professor. My student teaching experience was a year-long in a Chicago Public High School in an Italian classroom.
