I believe to be a tutor there are two critical elements, knowledge and communication. As a tutor, what good is knowledge if you can't share it with the student?
To speak to my knowledge, I will explore my background. Throughout grade school I was always ahead of the curve and when I got to high school I was placed in all honors or sophomore level classes. Upon graduation, I had chosen to go to the University of Toledo in Northwest Ohio because my ACT scores and high school grades had qualified me for a scholarship that paid for full tuition and fees. I graduated with my Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering degree. Immediately after undergrad, I started the grad program at the University of Toledo and received my Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering with a focus on thermal sciences. I am currently employed at a multi-billion dollar Military Defense company doing structural, thermal, and vibration analysis. My entire professional/educational career would not have been possible without a deep understanding of math and technical sciences (physics, fluid dynamics, calculus, chemistry, statistics, etc.).
I have always been a social butterfly, and I work well with others. Throughout my years of schooling I have helped other students. In college, I was a teaching assistant for a few courses and even received the "Outstanding Teaching Assistant" award during my 6th year. I was previously employed at a large private learning center, but left shortly after my WyzAnt career rapidly expanded! My communication skills have always been far above average throughout these endeavors, and I have always succeeded in helping those who have needed it.
My methods of tutoring can vary and depend on what is needed. If current course assistance is all that is required, I would love to answer any questions, provide supplemental material and input, and/or help with any homework. If course or test prep is needed I can come up with a curriculum and practice examples to prepare your student for AP tests, ACTs, SATs, or an upcoming course in high school or college.

James tutors my son in mathematics and physics, in addition to providing support for ACT prep. James is a lovely young man who is easy to contact and very flexible. After meeting James initially, it was easy for me to be hands off. James treats my son respectfully and is amenable to working around my son's schedule. I don't have to wonder what happened in a session because James quickly posts a very concise summary of the lesson on the computer. My son likes his easy going manner and ability to explain things.
James is helping with college calculus and has been very helpful across all the topics covered including integrals, infinite sums, integration and differentiation of power series, and Taylor Expansions.
James is helping my daughter get a jump start on Chemistry for the next school year. He does a great job of making the material interesting and fun. She feels very comfortable and at ease with James, and the real bonus….she is learning!!
Jimmy has been great in scheduling appointments to accommodate my son's busy schedule. I really appreciate his willingness to work around these issues. My son is not super communicative about how things are going but he values his time working with Jimmy and the clarity Jimmy provides to what my son needs to work on.
James always responds timely. My son was struggling with HS physics. With James's help, he is getting an 'A' in regular physics with reasonable effort.
James has been tutoring my son for several weeks in Algebra 2/Trig. The tutoring sessions have been extremely helpful for him and his grade has improved. James is flexible with scheduling and responds quickly by email. I would highly recommend him as a math tutor.
Jimmy is working out very well as a tutor for my son in Pre-Calc. He is patient, reliable, positive and very knowledgeable. My son has a different learning style, and Jimmy has adapted to best fit his needs. His grades have improved weekly and the sessions are getting shorter because he's able to master the material more quickly. Also great about accommodating schedule when possible.
We had been searching for a tutor to assist our daughter in high school honors Geometry. James S. has helped her excel in her coursework and final exam. We greatly appreciate his ability to grasp the concepts required and explain them to her. He provides detailed explanations of what they reviewed. We are grateful for his willingness to accommodate our schedule.
James does a great job with the use of time he spends with my son. He has not only done an amazing job with all the math/physics topics, but has given him a well defined plan for all of his other subjects. We are very happy to have found James on Wyzant.
James is very bright. He has a wonderful way of explaining the issues my son has been having with his AP Calculus class. He is really helping!
I highly recommend James! After trying to contact several physics tutors, James was the first one to quickly reply to me and continues to be responsive and accommodating in meeting with my daughter. As for his tutoring, he is clear, patient and knowledgeable. My daughter had been lost in Physics this semester and, thanks to James, she now gets it.
Jimmy has been tutoring my son in AP Stats. He is very knowledgeable and relates well. I have seen a noticeable difference in grades and confidence in just 3 lessons! I am very happy!
Smart guy, personable, definitely knows his stuff, explained concepts very well. I would recommend him to anyone, especially if you need help starting from scratch.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Received a 4 on the Calculus BC exam.
Received a BSME from the University of Toledo.
Received an MSME from the University of Toledo.
Received "Outstanding Teaching Assistant" Award during graduate school.
Scored a 28 and 30 on the ACTs with a 35 in mathematics.
I have my master's degree in mechanical engineering. Physics, chemistry, anatomy, and biology were all part of my curriculum to get where I am today. Overall, I received a 30 on my ACTs, with a 27 in science.
I took algebra 1 my 8th grade year and received an A. I have been applying algebra constantly throughout my schooling and career as I have obtained a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering and am employed at an aerospace company as an engineer.
I received an A in calculus my senior year of high school and 4 on my calculus AP test. I have since improved upon my math skills while obtaining a BS in mechanical engineering and an MS in mechanical engineering. I am professionally employed and calculus is part of everyday life for me.
I have my master's degree in mechanical engineering. For my thesis project and my current professional career, I have become proficient in control systems. Control systems theory consists of many differential equations. In association with this I received an A in differential equations when I received my bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering.
