About Tiffany

Hello! My name is Tiffany, and I am a bilingual English/Japanese Tutor living in The Greater Chicagoland Area. I am currently a graduate student in nutrition and dietetics, as well as a dietetic intern. I do not have prior experience with tutoring, so am new to the teaching aspect of this job, but I have the experience of 16 years of living in Japan and 9 years of attending public school in Japan.

Though in terms of nationality I am an American, I have always felt like I am more of a Japanese on the inside. I have worked in the past as a hotel concierge in Japan, as well as a waitress at an upscale Italian restaurant in Japan - both jobs with which it was crucial that I have an excellent comprehension of Japanese, both in spoken and written contexts.

I have now lived in the United States for 8 years, and last year passed the N1 level of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (which is a certification by the Japan Foundation of Los Angeles) on my first try. Passing the N1 level denotes the highest level of proficiency in Japanese, both written and spoken.

In regards to teaching, I do have experience teaching nutrition classes for children age 5-12, so I am confident that I will be able to apply these teaching skills when I am tutoring students in Japanese and English.

I am professional, timely, and patient. I believe that the best learning environment is one in which the student feels comfortable and encouraged. I strongly believe in catering my tutoring approach to the student's learning style (I myself am an auditory learner). I believe that anyone can learn Japanese or English as long as they have the passion and determination to do so.

I am also great at proofreading English papers for grammatical errors. I currently work as a graduate assistant and have experience grading and proofreading a variety of student essays/papers. So, if you need help with English, I can definitely help you with that as well. Finding a great tutor that is a good fit for your personality and learning style can greatly help with your journey of learning Japanese. I would love the chance to be able to help you improve your Japanese or English, as I have real life experience of living, attending public school, and working in Japan.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Bible Studies

I have taken a college level New Testament course as well as an Old Testament Course.

Great tutor! — Tiffany is a fantastic tutor! She is very understanding when it comes to learning a new language, because she has done it herself. She understands the struggles of a fellow learner of the Japanese language! ...
