Hello, my name is Adam.
I have been tutoring at NIU for 3 years now, mostly in Chemistry but I also tutor other disciplines such as Psychology, Sociology, Biology, English, low level Math. I have tutored all kinds students and have worked with their various needs. I have always been able to find a tutoring method that worked. It is NOT about just showing the student the answers or doing their work. The true heart of tutoring is being able to help the student to learn. It is about finding the way that they learn and how to convey the information to them so that they may understand it and internalize it.
In short, I love tutoring and it has been one of my favorite jobs. I am totally confident in my abilities and in finding the learning method that works for each and every student. I am not strict, per say, I am friendly and motivating. All I want is for the learner to perform at their very best level and to eventually not need my help anymore.
Thank you for reading and I hope you consider me a viable candidate for helping you or your student.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I never had any problems with math and teaching myself all throughout high school and my first 2 years of college. Though I pursued a B.A. that I am receiving in May and never had to take high level math. Though this does not affect my competency in teaching it. I have less experience with this subject than chemistry but chemistry does require a large amount of fundamental algebra knowledge. I have been tutoring it for 3 years.
I have tutored this subject with NIUs PAL (peer assisted learning) service for 3 years now. I believe I am fully competent in explaining every area in this subject. I have many approaches in teaching it and enjoy every second of tutoring this subject.
I am a certified personal trainer through the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM).
I find this to be another area of English that is far too often ignored in education. I myself have a very good vocabulary and enjoy teaching others seldom used words. I try to learn as many new words as I can and am very good at teaching them to others, as well as their origins and how to use them properly.
