About Liz

Student enrichment is one of the main focuses in my life. This Fall, I will be studying Adult & Higher Education at NIU in order to improve my skills in student theory and development. I strongly believe in teaching students the importance of learning and helping them develop a passion to understand why the work they are doing is important. My strategy is not to ask all of the questions and give the answers, but to help them figure out how to start asking themselves the right questions and how to go about answering them. I am a constant resource for my peers in regard to editing and proofreading and have tutored high school and middle school aged students in math. I am interested in helping all students K-12 with any basic subject they may be struggling with. Student enrichment is one of the main focuses in my life. Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Career Development

As an undergraduate I was a Communications and Marketing major. During my coursework I took a 'Writing in Professional Fields' class in which I learned how to write a cover letter, resume, letter of recommendation, memo, and other professionals documents. After I graduated I worked at the University of Sioux Falls as an Academic Success Coordinator. Today I continue to review and revise students and peers professional documents as a professional in higher education.

Softball

I played fastpitch softball for eight years. Two of these years were completed at the collegiate level, Division III. I also coached our hometown recreational league for two summers and was an assistant coach for a fastpitch 14U team for one summer.

Study Skills

I have been a 4.0 student throughout graduate school and have studied student development theory while in the Adult and Higher Education Program at NIU. Simultaneously, I have worked with at-risk student-athletes to enhance their time management and study skills. All athletes I have worked with have passed their classes.
