Welcome! Let me tell you a little bit about myself. I have been tutoring for over 6 years now and have teaching experiences as well. Although I love both experiences, tutoring brings the added benefits of being able to customize lessons in order to fit a particular child's specific needs. Watching the amazing growth that children make because of this is phenomenal.

In addition, I believe that all children can become lifelong learners. Children are inherently curious and have a natural desire to learn, and they need caring and compassionate educators to help them fuel their desires to learn.

Since parents are children's first educators, I work with parents to determine where their children need some extra help, provide parents of potential topics to be covered, and keep parents informed of their children's progress after each lesson. At times, some practice to be done at home will be given to reinforce concepts.

In addition to having my Elementary Education degree, I also have an endorsement in Mathematics. Also, I have been tutoring in math for over 6 years. When tutoring in math, I work to make abstract math concepts more understandable by making them more concrete. I use manipulatives when possible in order to accomplish this as well as use real world examples.

In addition to having my Elementary Education degree, I also have an additional endorsement in Spanish.

While my Elementary Education degree included Reading methods courses, I have taken additional Reading courses specifically designed to determine children's specific struggles in Reading and how best to help them. Throughout these courses, I have done many tutoring sessions as well as case studies.

The additional Reading courses that I have taken have also included Phonics methods as well.

If you think your child could benefit from tutoring, then I look forward to hearing from you!

Elementary Education

Elementary (K-6th),

Elementary (K-6th)

As an educator who holds an elementary education degree, I am certified through the state to teach grades K - 9. While in college, many education courses taught me how to plan lessons that meet students' needs and progress them while meeting standards. I also learned about many different teaching methods and strategies and how and when it is most effective to apply each. In addition, I also have experience teaching at the elementary level at a public school. I have also been tutoring for over 6 years now for children in elementary, middle, as well as high school.

For the past 6 years, I have been heavily involved in teaching in some manner. After graduating from college, I received a long term sub position during which I gained experience teaching as well as implementing a curriculum. Since the school district was rewriting its curriculum, many times I planned and created lessons while using the Common Core standards as my guide; thus, I wrote my own curriculum based on my students' needs and the standards they needed to meet. This, I believe, is an essential element to home schooling a student: writing a curriculum that takes into consideration a student's needs as well as the standards they are required to meet. In addition to my teaching experience, I also have been tutoring for over 6 years now during which I implement the same principles. I work with the students' prior knowledge in any subject and work on developing a curriculum that progresses the students' knowledge in the subject based on the standards that are set forth by the Common Core. Thus, with my years of experience in developing curriculum and meeting students' needs in order to further progress their knowledge, I believe that I am qualified to home school.

Phonics

While in college and completing my Elementary Education degree, I had a few reading methods courses that were mandatory. Within these courses, we identified students who were in need of more help within the subject of reading (with phonics being a part of reading), provided them with tutoring, and then completed case studies on them in order to show their progress. In addition, I took additional reading courses. Within these courses, we specifically identified struggles that children have with phonics (i.e. which phonemes were they struggling with) and examined different strategies in helping them with their phonics development. I also completed tutoring sessions with children in a local school that were in need of more help with phonics and completed a case study to show their growth throughout the tutoring sessions. Through my coursework and tutoring experiences, I have found that children who require help in phonics benefit greatly from systematic and explicit instruction which is what I aim to provide with regards to phonics.

I have many years of experience tutoring and have recently started up again tutoring for the ACT Math section. I score highly on the Math portions of the ACT. Also, I have test taking strategies that I incorporate into my sessions since scoring well on the ACT is a mix of the knowledge that you have plus the strategies that you have for taking tests.
