I have gone above and beyond what is expected of me to earn my degrees. I finished my student teaching this spring and graduated. I had nine weeks of teaching time in a middle school in Naperville. During those nine weeks, I was doing the full job which included leading large group band rehearsals and small group lessons every day, fitting fifth grade students for instruments, sending emails home to families, inputing grades in the grade book, supervising students during bus duty and gym duty, helping run Solo and Ensemble Festival, and conducting at the spring concert. I have done what a middle school band director does every day and I loved going to school.
Then, I was at Scott Elementary School in the Naperville district 203 and understand the joy and difficulties it entails. I taught students who are part of the STARS program, which are students who are emotionally, socially, and behaviorally challenged. I care for all the students and I’m learning many different ways to help them learn at school.
I want to be a teacher because I love making music everyday, I love helping kids, and I am good at connecting with people. I never go a day without challenging myself musically. I practice my trumpet everyday which engages my body and mind. Sharing this passion with students is a great job and I can’t see myself doing anything else. Teaching comes easily to me and I continue to reflect and learn everyday.
I have many different musical experiences that I could use to reach every learner. Not only am I serious about my own musicianship by practicing my trumpet everyday and playing with orchestras and bands in the community, but I also took voice lessons, sang in a choir, played in an Indonesian Gamelan ensemble, and took violin lessons to better teach middle school orchestra students in my clinicals. I am willing to go above and beyond in order to benefit my students and help them become creative, respectful, and hard working members of society.
I would love to hear from you and learn more about your goals as a musician. I have gone above and beyond what is expected of me to earn my degrees. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am now certified K-12 music. During my student teaching semester, I spent nine weeks at an elementary school teaching general music. This job included: singing, pitch and un-pitched percussion, recorders, world music ensemble, etc.
I have recently taken courses from Northern Illinois University about music history. There were three courses that went in depth about music from the medieval period to present day music. I have also studied music from around the world in a world music class and taught a fifth grade world music ensemble in my student teaching semester.
I have taken four semesters of music theory in college. I studied a lot during these courses and I know websites/tricks to help a person develop these skills.
I have played the trumpet for 13 years now. I have received a bachelor's degree in trumpet performance from Northern Illinois University. I have previously taught private students.
