About Susan

I have 25 years of successful experience teaching middle and high school students English, Reading and Journalism. In addition to teaching I have written many grants to help my students have more resources in the classroom and to be more successful. I worked many hours after school with my students needed my help and have won several awards for professionalism. I have had the honor of being awarded Disney Teacherrif two years, Lakeland Wal-Mart Teacher of the Year, NEA Youth Leaders for Literacy and earned a Target Teacher's Scholarship.

Additionally, I facilitated Reading Component courses for teachers after school, taught as an adjunct professor at Florida Southern College and have presented at many conferences such as the National Service-Learning Conference, Florida Just Read Conference and the Florida Reading Adoption Committee.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Grammar

It is a personal quest for me to know and use grammar properly. One of my jobs at several schools was to prepare the school newsletter. I wanted to make sure it put a positive light on the school. There is nothing worse than publishing a newsletter from an educational institution with grammatical errors. Also I have taught English grammar to middle and high school students for 25 years. By writing grants, I was able to enrich the classroom materials available to my students. No one will award a poorly written grant.
