I have been teaching mathematics at a local High School for 19 years. I have taught every level in those years from basic algebra to AP Calculus and everything in between. I absolutely love my job teaching and working with young people. I understand that math is not everyone's favorite subject as it was not always mine throughout high school. However, once I started in Calculus classes at Northwestern, I found that I really enjoyed math. The number one reason I became a teacher was that math was not always easy, but since I persevered through the high school curriculum, I was very successful at Northwestern.
I specialize in tutoring AP Calculus, AP Statistics, Pre-Calculus, Geometry, and Algebra. Whether you are studying for a test or just trying to get through your homework, I can help break down the topics so you will understand the material at a deeper level.
I do try to be flexible with scheduling, but I do coach volleyball in the summer and fall. Everyone is so busy these days, I understand that conflicts do come up, however, I require a 24 hour notice for cancellation.
With almost 20 years of teaching, I feel like I know what topics will give students trouble and how to help them navigate through the material with success and more confidence.
I want students to feel comfortable working through problems in a relatively quiet location, so I like to meet with my students at the Crystal Lake Library or at a coffee shop near by.
I look forward to hearing from you! I have been teaching mathematics at a local High School for 19 years. Joyce has been tutoring my Son in pre-calculus since October. His quiz and testing scores have improved and his overall knowledge of pre-calculus has improved significantly. We are confident that his grade will continue to improve and he now has strong math skills and is gaining confidence. We are so thankful for Joyce!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have taught geometry over the years while being a high school teacher.
I taught Pre-Calculus for over 10 years at a high school.
