Hello and welcome! Thank you for visiting my page. My name is Danielle. I received my B.A. in Elementary Education in 2009. I have a state of Illinois teaching license with endorsements in language arts and social studies. A majority of my undergraduate experience was working with children in grades K-5.
I taught first grade for two years and I currently teach second grade in the south suburbs of IL.
I have a strong knowledge base in all subject areas especially those for elementary education students. I am well versed in other areas such as RtI, and PBIS. Also, I am extremely knowledgeable on administering (Progress Monitoring systems, AIMsWeb, benchmark assessments, 3-minute Reading Assessments, DRA assessments, Running Records, Assessment for Phonemic Awareness, Phonics Mastery Survey, BRI Word Lists and Passages, DIBELS, etc).
Furthermore, I have tutored many students in the past who were struggling readers. I administered assessments to help show growth with struggling students. I have also created and taught lessons with hands-on opportunities to enhance learning. In addition, lessons where focused on mastering specific skills (story mapping, predicting, inferring, decoding, context clues, etc)
I love working with children and see them succeed inside and outside of the classroom. I hope to lead them on a road to excellence in the classroom. I love to learn and discover new things about myself and students; I think that teaching is an excellent way to do both.
I am open to tutoring students on an individual basis or in a small group. I am also open for negotiations for hourly rate. The details for a group rate would have to discussed on an individual basis and then be approved by the company. I am a flexible person and through great communication everything can be worked out to benefit kids.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am a certified elementary teacher with a résumé of diverse experiences. My teaching certificate is an Illinois standard type 03 and I am certified to teach grades K-9. Also, I have endorsements in language arts and social studies. A majority of my undergraduate experience was working with children in grades K-5. Prior to graduating and receiving my certification, I was a science club instructor, teacher aided in various settings, and student taught and tutored students. Each experience has given me insight into the working and differing abilities of students. I have an extensive library of materials to utilize while tutoring in all subject areas.

While I was doing my clinical experience I saw first hand how phonics works. I worked in a Kindergarten classroom for a semester using Michael Haggerty Phonics Book. We would work on Language Arts and students would ask me to spell out a word for them. I used a real life example by having them sound it out to the best of their ability and we would work at it together. They were learning to spell and use their phonics skills that are taught for at least 10 minutes a day and reinforced throughout the day.
I have learned and had first hand experience with the 5 components of teaching reading. They are as follows: 1)Fluency (which phonics plays a huge role in) 2) Comprehension (which works hand and hand with fluency) 3) Phonics 4) Phonemic Awareness (the ability to manipulate different sounds that form different words) 5) Vocabulary.
I know how to use each of the components of reading to help children succeed in phonics. I also have different resources to help me guide students to better use phonics. I have worked in classrooms from Kindergarten to 5th grade that focus on phonics to help students.
I played collegiate soccer for 4 years. Two years of which I was a captain. Also, in college I was a volunteer assistant coach the Junior Varsity at Trinity Christian College from August 2008 to November 2008. In high school, I played soccer throughout my attendance at Crete-Monee High School. I held a leadership role as captain for three years here in high school.

2009 - 2010 – Crete Hawks Select Camp Assistant Camp Director/Trainer; coached 9-14 year old boys and girls. Emphasize the use of technical and tactical skills to improve both their ability to read the game and their individual soccer skills in game like situations. Also, taught ball control skills, including: correct trapping, passing, dribbling and shooting techniques.
2008 – Trinity Christian College assistant soccer coach for junior varsity and varsity. Helped plan and co-led practice sessions to develop a diverse group of soccer players. Prepared and maintained up-to-date lesson plans and goals for season practice drills and procedures. Planned and developed practice sessions and motivated the team. Instruct players on passing, correct trapping, dribbling and shooting techniques. Provide encouragement and motivational support for each player. Improved players’ ability to read and adapt to the game.
2006 - 2008 – Trinity Christian College soccer camp instructor; coached Pre-K to second graders. Prepared fun, engaging practice sessions while teaching: ball control skills, including correct trapping, passing, dribbling, juggling, defensive skills, and shooting techniques.
Fall 2006 – Crete Hawks FC; coached U-12 coed soccer. Taught ball control skills, including correct trapping, passing, dribbling and shooting techniques. Also, taught both technical and tactical skills.
Spring 2006 – Volunteer Coach at Crete-Monee High School; help coach girl’s soccer team. Prepare drills and simulations of game situations to improve overall ability to anticipate the movement of the ball and the ability to read the game.
My clinical experience as well as student teaching, novice teaching, and personal experience have helped me focus my studying. I am more than qualified to work with test preparation and curriculum study skills.
I have learned many tricks throughout my pre-collegiate experience and even during my collegiate time and it is continuing. There is not one set thing that works for a person.
There are many different categories for study skills and each is important to achieve the goals you have set forth for yourself. They can range from comprehension (remember), time management, study habits, motivation, note-taking, and the list could go on.
I have come across many study skills that are both traditional and non-traditional to help me remember things for which I have studied for.
