About Tiffany

Hello! I am a current masters student in international relations at the University of Chicago, with experience in teaching and tutoring. While an undergrad, I was an honors major in political science and an honors minor in Chinese. After graduating in 2013, I spent two years in Taiwan as an English teacher. After returning this fall, I became a part time employee of Princeton University's Pace Center, helping to oversee and supervise the tutoring programs for middle school and high school students. I love the opportunities I've had to interact with and help students of all ages. I also worked this past year as a consultant with a non profit consultant agency.

I am available to tutor students in Chinese, English and U.S. history. My experience as a teacher taught me how to produce engaging lesson plans for students, an invaluable skill whether in the classroom or tutoring one-on-one. I have experience teaching a range of subjects in English, including reading, writing, and grammar. While in Taiwan I also worked as a Chinese-English translator, and did some interpreting for a church as well. I am especially eager to help young learners of Chinese to excel in this language, as communicating in Chinese has been personally fulfilling for me, and I wish to help other Americans enjoy this language and the culture it represents.

Feel free to contact me to find out more about my background and qualifications!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Chinese

My minor as an undergraduate was Chinese. I passed an honors exam that required me to read and analyze texts, write essays in Chinese, and featured an oral component as well. I studied abroad at National Taiwan University's International Chinese Language Program (ICLP) for six months, and after graduation returned to Taiwan to live for two years.

Political Science

As an undergraduate, I was an honors political science major. I received honors after passing an exam that required me to write three essays each on International Political Economy, Political Theory, and Democratic Theory, after which I was orally examined by experts in each sub-field. I have also worked in a federal agency, and interned on Capitol Hill.

A great personality goes with this very knowledgeable tutor.

Very few tutors are able to be both great at their subject, and wonderful at adjusting their entire presentation to the needs of the student. Tiffany is such a person. She relates to College kids on a level that makes the learning interesting, personable and fun. We never expected to be so pleased with a Wyzant tutor. Best Mandarin tutor ever.
