I hold teaching licensure in Illinois and Iowa. I am currently in the process of acquiring my Spanish proficient Bilingual teaching license and I am working on a Masters degree in Bilingual Education. In college, I was a CRLA Level 2 certified writing tutor on campus and I am currently a Princeton Review Online College Writing Tutor, as well. I also work as a high school speech coach and theatre director. I've been active participant in classrooms from a young age and through time have acquired the passion, skills and knowledge to help assist children and young adults in their journey through education.
I have over six years of experience in a classroom setting (Preschool-8th Grade, teaching-wise) and in classroom content. I have had significant experience with core elementary subjects, middle school English and History, Advanced Placement credits, and curriculum/lessons. I also have about four years of experience as a writing tutor.
I am flexible with availability, depending on the day, and can create openings other than what is listed below. So, please message me if you have a time you're interested in outside of the availability listed. I always open to suggestions and resources students or parents can provide. I am fairly quick to respond to most messages or requests that come through the site. Feel free to contact me with any additional questions or to schedule a lesson!
UPDATE: MAY 5TH, 2020 - My cancellation policy and late fees have been suspended further, until June 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, in order to fit the high demand for online learning/tutoring, the unpredictability of times right now, as well as my understanding that health, livelihoods, and families always come first.

I have personal and professional experiences with public speaking. Throughout my secondary education, I was a IHSA forensics competitor, including a regional competitor. I’ve had a plethora of public speaking experience at the collegiate level and in my professional endeavors, as a teacher. Now, I am an IHSA Assistant Speech coach that guides high school students through competitive public speaking opportunities and through a state-wide competition of that nature.

Flexible and Compassionate

Katherine is an excellent teacher and has been doing a great job teaching my son in elementary school writing and ESL speaking. She is very flexible in the design of each class to adapt to the growth of young students. She is very patient in answering questions and making corrections in spelling and pronunciations of the words during the classes. Starting in the 3rd lesson, homeworks is assigned at the end of each session and Katherine responds quickly in reviewing the homework and answering questions.

Supportive and encouraging personality

Very patient, listened to our concerns and goals for tutoring. Able to click with my daughter who was initially hesitant to having a 'tutor' but is now looking forward to the next lesson. Very pleased with Katheirne.

Flexible, Relatable, and Compassionate

Katherine is a very good tutor. She listens to her students, listened to me and what I was saying and let me make decisions for our lesson. She worked around my busy schedule, and didn't laugh when I expressed I didn't remember anything about simple elementary mathematics. She is compassionate, and instead, she walked me through it. We are currently building a study plan together to move forward and I'm very excited!
