Hello!

My name is Brian. I have tutored mathematics for more than 13 years, from first grade students up through adult education students. My specialty however, is high school …

Approved subjects are in **bold**.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

I have tutored the mathematics section of the ACT many times, and am quite familiar with the various types of questions: both in terms of concepts, and strategies specifically designed to help student taking the ACT..."Pick and Choose", "Process of Elimination", "Guess and Check".

I usually prefer to work with whatever material the student is using to prepare for the test: there are lots of books out there for this purpose. We will work through the problems, making sure the concepts are covered, as well as doing "extra work" where the student needs more help. Then we will work on timing, using practice tests, until the student feels ready for the test!

I have worked as a tutor for a company for 13 years, from students from 5 to 50 years old. During this time, I have also privately tutored on my own, mostly in high school mathematics. I am also familiar with ACT math prep and some SAT math. I have a degree in mathematics, specializing in education, from Western Illinois University.

I have over 13 years experience tutoring high school mathematics, including Algebra 2. I would have to say it is my personal favorite to work with. Though I have a solid grasp of the material, I am always finding interesting new ways to "break it down" for my students. Finding rational zeroes, conic sections, long division with polynomials, rational expressions...these are only a few of the problem spots many Algebra 2 students run into, and I have worked with them many times. My favorite thing to hear, "The way you explain it makes it so easy!"

Geometry, with its spacial relations concepts, theorems, and proofs, is often a stumbling block for high school students. It can be a non-intuitive way of thinking for some, especially if their computational and/or algebraic skills are lacking. I have an extensive knowledge of all these skills, and have tutored Geometry in both a "homework help" setting, and as a one-on-one instructor, covering the whole semester.

I have tutored extensively in high school mathematics. Included in my background is a solid knowledge of Algebra 2 and Trigonometry, the precursors to Pre-Calculus. This background enables me to break down the subject into a less intimidating format, unlike many textbooks on the subject.
