I have been tutoring students since 2010 in math, science, Spanish, reading, writing English, ACT, and SAT. I have extensive experience tutoring one-on-one as well as teaching full classrooms. I've taught at after-school centers such as Kumon in addition to private test prep companies such as Academic Approach. Through this work, I had the opportunity to teach ACT classes in Chicago public and private schools, so I have a very wide range of experience. I have also volunteered as a teacher in Guatemala, where I helped young underprivileged children in the outskirts of Antigua, Guatemala with their schoolwork. I taught English abroad in South Korea and Argentina as well. Thus, I have worked with a large variety of backgrounds, ages, and cultures.
My favorite thing about tutoring is seeing the transformation of students through their growth and progress from the first day to the last - it's an incredible feeling and a privilege to be able to help students experience the joy and feeling of accomplishment that comes with reaching their goals.
I think the most important thing about being a math tutor is not only having a solid understanding of the math knowledge base, but also being aware of the many different ways a question can be answered. Although I always advocate for the most efficient method, what is efficient for one student may not always be best for another student. I always keep an open mind about the learning process and tailor the experience to the individual.
