I am a firm believer that lessons are best learned by stepping outside of your comfort zone and taking action. This is maxim I don’t just use with my students, but one that I also apply to my own life. To date, I’ve traveled to more than 25 different countries and 35 American states. I am a firm believer that lessons are best learned by stepping outside of your comfort zone and taking action. This is maxim I don’t just use with my students, but one that I also apply to my own life. To date, I’ve traveled to more than 25 different countries and 35 American states. This exposure to numerous cultures, belief systems, lifestyles, and personalities has shaped my passion for learning and helping others to succeed. Not only this, but traveling extensively requires a lot of on-your-feet thinking, patience, and the ability to read people quickly—all of which are vital skills of a successful educator.
I did not always know I wanted to be a teacher. I originally enrolled in college to become a Biomedical Engineer. After I earned a B.S. in Biology, a B.A. in Chemistry, and a Minor in Mathematics, I decided to participate in various science-based internships all over the world in order to discovery a career I was passionate about. An internship in Pennsylvania as an Environmental Educator inspired me to go back to college to become a Biology Teacher in California. I loved having my own classroom and seeing my “kids” everyday, inspiring a joy for learning within them while discovering new and creative ways to teach complex subjects.

When I moved to Chicago several years later, I decided to pursue tutoring full-time. Because of my professional and personal experiences, I can quickly assess my students, molding my teaching style to maximize their strengths and reshape their weaknesses into positive traits. Perhaps most importantly, I teach them how to learn, so they are always in the powerful position of being able to help themselves. This custom approach ensures they’re given every tool necessary to be successful, building their confidence and skills enough to ultimately wean them off their tutor in the near future.

Students are rarely, if ever, afforded a teacher’s undivided attention in the classroom. Sometimes a lesson’s meaning will get lost in translation, and teachers can’t always address each students’ needs within their allotted time. With my subject-specific tutoring and homework help services, your student won’t fall through the cracks. I will keep them on track and excited about learning with customized lesson plans that will not only help them to comprehend the material and finish assignments on time, but also become better students in the process.

I will help students: prioritizing assignments and determine a plan of action for each, establish a routine of organization and getting ahead, understand the concepts through the process of “I Do, We Do, You Do," and monitor progress and maintain connections with teachers and support staff. I will teach inquiry and investigation techniques to help students locate the information needed to solve problems, and to eventually become independent learners.

The SAT, ACT, and other college placement exams are some of the most grueling tests, but your student shouldn’t fear them or feel like they must face the challenge alone. The test prep experience does not have to be stressful either; it can actually be enjoyable. With my friendly and experienced guidance, any student can learn the content – not just the correct answers – in a safe, non-judgmental atmosphere. As a bonus, efficiently prepping for these tests will help your student review and retain the information they’ve learned throughout their entire high school careers, helping them prepare for a successful transition to college. I will: provide and assess a diagnostic test to determine specific areas of need, develop a clear plan of action for the time frame available, teach customized lessons, utilizing sample tests and supplementary resources, assign and evaluate individualized homework assessing comprehension of topics covered during tutoring, and document progress to provide constant feedback about growth and future plans.

The resources, the budgets, the prestige – there’s no doubt that private and selective enrollment high schools can give students a competitive edge. As such, the application process to get into these prestigious and selective high schools can be extremely competitive. I can help students develop the tools they need to not only be accepted to these schools, but to also thrive amongst some of the country’s top performing students.

I know that every student – and how they learn – is different. As such, I offer no one-size-fits-all approach: what works for one person may not work for the next. After getting to know the student, I will craft the most effective approach and program possible to help him/her reach his/her goals, keeping his/her individual needs and skills in mind every step of the way. Perhaps most importantly, my methods are adaptive: as the student learns and grows, our strategies change along with him/her. That way, me and my students are always in sync. I am also committed to ensuring all of my students move forward with a thorough understanding of the subjects they’re learning. Knowing the correct answer or writing the perfect essay will, of course, help them reach their immediate goals. But I am more interested in setting students up with lifelong building blocks, upon which they’ll develop their knowledge and a solid foundation for reaching their dreams.
