I'm Will, and just graduated with a B.S. in Pure and Applied Mathematics with honors from the University of Chicago.
(Math) I have been tutoring high school mathematics for 6 years, and undergraduate mathematics for 2 years, both at University of Chicago, and at Mathnasium LLC. In high school or undergrad, I’ve worked the most with students who need help getting a bearing in their class, whether it be calculus, algebra, geometry, or analysis. I wasn’t always the best math student – I struggled with understanding at the beginning of my high school math career, and again at the beginning of college, so I have a real sympathy for students who want patience, and a careful approach to problem solving. I’m a fan of examples paired with structure – I will have lots of examples at the ready, and a careful explanation behind them, to show the purpose behind some mathematical idea or process.
(Test Prep) Though I’m a tutor for math at all levels, I have 2 years of experience in preparing students for the whole ACT and SAT exams at Mathnasium LLC. Of course, the math section is my specialty, but I have worked one-on-one with students to prepare students for the English and Reading sections as well. I am especially helpful for students who struggle with the timing of a standardized exam – this was a challenge for myself when I took the ACT and SAT, so I personally learned, and have practiced with my students, effective ways to overcome it!
(Spanish) I am a native Spanish speaker (family from Galicia), and have 2 years of experience tutoring Spanish at the introductory and high-school levels. I also welcome the opportunity to work with students who intend on developing fluency, and already have some background in Spanish grammar – anybody looking for help with the basics of Spanish grammar and vocabulary, or, who is hoping to pick back up the study of Spanish, has come to the right place!
I'd like to work as often as possible, so don't be shy! I am willing to travel to students in the Chicago area, and I also tutor over online video. Reach out and I'll get back to you asap.
