In 2002 I graduated from Bradley University majoring in elementary education. Almost 10 years later I received my masters in reading specialty from Concordia University. In 2002 I graduated from Bradley University majoring in elementary education. Almost 10 years later I received my masters in reading specialty from Concordia University. From 2002 to 2016 I taught elementary education kindergarten through fifth grade. Ogden International School of Chicago was my home for the majority of my career (the first 2 years I taught in Western Springs). I am currently on a leave of absence to be home with my 2 and 4 year old daughters. Although I’ve been home with my two young kids for almost 3 years I have continued to tutor while on leave from Chicago Public Schools.
Through my experiences tutoring since leaving the classroom I realize that I really miss helping kids grow academically . Providing tutoring services is a great balance between professional and personal life for myself. I work hard on assessing and planning for sessions due to my passion for teaching. The one on one tutoring allows me to focus on areas of strength and weakness as well as plan engaging activities to meet the student’s needs.

Teaching first grade has helped me analyze the basics in math. Getting back to the basics really helps children understand more complex concepts. I feel that I make learning math engaging and fun. I also used several different strategies depending on the students learning style to achieve the objective.

My master’s degree is in reading. I am up-to-date in all current practices and I’m a veteran teacher therefore I have experience putting these practices to use.

Phonics and phonemic awareness or two of my favorites to teach! Both are engaging, quick and fun activities for teacher and student.

Please contact me if you would like to learn more about myself, teaching strategies, assessments and plans used to reach the objectives. I look forward to meeting you!

Very impressed

My (toddler) son just had his first session with Jamie. I wasn't there but I think it went great. He was very happy and chatty when I picked him up from school, where Jamie did the tutoring session. He was doing word rhyming all evening! A few days later, Jamie wrote me a long message going through all the activities they did together. He's a little of a free spirit so I was floored by the number of activities she got him to do in a 1 hour session. Very happy after just 1 session. Prior to starting the first session, we communicated a lot through Wyzant and she sought a lot of information from me regarding my son and what specifically we wanted to focus on. I feel very comfortable that she could very quickly establish a good relationship with him and very comfortable that she and I have a good line of communication.
