I started my college career as an architecture student, but quickly switched to physics after becoming infatuated by it. Despite coming from a different academic background than most of my peers, I quickly developed my ability to learn physics and math, and managed to take many extra courses in advanced physics topics like general relativity and quantum field theory. I had already had a bit of experience tutoring math at that point, but I think that diving head-first into physics and creating my own learning style really informed the way that I teach students.

As a PhD student, I have been a teaching assistant in intermediate level physics courses for the past year and a half. This has given me considerable experience in designing lectures and practice problems, leading discussions, and answering students' questions in order to maximize their understanding. My favorite teaching format, however, is one-on-one tutoring, which I have been doing since high school in everything from pre-algebra and SAT math to partial differential equations and quantum mechanics. This setting allows me to establish a closer rapport with the student, which makes learning easier and more natural.

Knowledgeable, Engaging, Kind- Ian is Excellent!!

I have been working with Ian for 3 months now, and he is fantastic. I am a Physics major at the University of Chicago, and his patient explanations of complex topics and guidance on studying and assignments has been absolutely priceless in my advanced math and mechanics courses. His intelligence and clear communication are hard to come by, and make him an excellent tutor!
