About Tomasz

Hi, My name's Tom! I grew up in a Polish speaking household, where I was exposed to Math/Business at an early age through my parents' work. That exposure soon turned into interest and that's why I decided to major in Accounting at The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. The reason I decided to major in Accounting at The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign is due to its highly ranked Accounting program, and its rigorous business courses. Upon graduation my Accounting GPA was a 3.6/4.0. During my time in college I was always the go-to person when any of my classmates needed help understanding the lessons, homework, or to study for an upcoming exam. The classes that I enjoyed the most were Financial Statement Analysis, Managerial Accounting, Economics, Marketing.

After college I entered the world of corporate finance, and now I'm a Sr. Financial Analyst with Tribune Broadcasting. I work cross functionally with Accounting, Sales, and Marketing. I'm exposed to income statements on a daily basis and one of my key roles is providing Sr. Leadership with analysis on variances for revenue and expenses. I work in a variety of Microsoft Office products: Word, Excel, PowerPoint. Based on my work experience, I think I would be equipped to tie real world applications of math and accounting into your coursework. Recently, I also flipped a house and one of the key aspects was managing a budget to ensure the project did not go over the projected costs. I understand that math/accounting seem challenging & scary, but I think I can help you gain confidence and view it from a much more pleasant angle.

I'll approach our tutoring sessions by asking you, the student, to explain to me what you've learned so far in class. The reason I'll have you do this is because teaching others is the best way to learn any type of material, it'll also help build your confidence in the subject. At the same time, I'll ask you to show me where you're having trouble with the coursework, and for you to show me any type of homework/quizzes you answered incorrectly. Seeing where you made your errors will provide me with greater insight into how you're approaching the problem sets, and if you're falling into any traps that can be avoided.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Helpful Tutoring

We went over the notes from my managerial class on the specific topic of fluctuating productions and segments. The tutoring session was helpful in getting me to understand the material better since we did not cover it in class.
